“Anyone think this is kind of surreal?”

Logan nodded. “I was chained in another world. All this shit is surreal. I don’t even know where to begin.”

Cross punched me in the shoulder. “How about you? Is assassin Beckett gone for good?”

“I really hope not.” Ophelia sighed. “I liked that dude.”

Astrid tucked under my arm and placed her hand on my stomach. “He’s exactly who he needs to be. With no regrets, right?”

It wasn’t easy living with what I’d done, but Astrid was right. They’d been attacking me all my life, and now they never would assault me again or hurt anyone else. “Right.”

Maze nudged Logan with his elbow. “Have you met Angel yet?”

Logan shook his head. “No. It’s weird. I have no idea who she is and I feel like I have to fix it. Like I was my fault. Even though it wasn’t. I’m just not ready, man.”

Maze’s eyes turned milky white, and he sighed. “Then you better run, because she’s coming.”

Logan pressed his lips into a hard line and headed toward one of the portals. “I just can’t yet.” He stepped through and disappeared before she came up to us.

Just then Angel strolled up to our group. She was so innocent with her red hair, green eyes, the freckles sprinkled across her nose. She tucked a lock of her hair behind her ear. “Hey, guys.” She shuffled from one foot to the other. “Is, um, Logan around? I kind of wanted to talk to him. Or I guess you could say meet him?”

I shook my head. This is hella awkward. “He had to go handle some things in Evermore.”

“Oh.” She looked down at the ground, completely deflated. “I guess I’ll just catch him later then.”

Astrid gave her a warm smile. “I’ll tell him you’re looking for him.”

“Thanks, but somehow I don’t think that matters all that much. I’ll see you guys around.” She hurried away from our group.

“That was awkward.” Astrid sighed. “I wish there was something we could do. I feel like they need to meet each other.”

Maze looked after Angel. “Don’t you worry. That girl is not to be underestimated.”

“What does that mean?” Astrid arched an eyebrow at Maze.

“It means I gotta get back to Tilly.”

Before he could leave, a fire message appeared right in the middle of all of us. Cross’ arm shot out and he grabbed it. His eyes widened as he read the message. “It’s from Zin. We gotta go.”

I was already moving toward one of the portals. “What’s up?”

“It’s Nylore. He’s here and he’s attacking.” Cross pulled a knife from behind his back.

Adrenaline pumped through my veins and I was ready. It was time to deal with a few last problems—the walls and killing that damn Unseelie. “Where?”

He groaned and shook his head. “Seattle.”

“Beckett, think of all the people.” Astrid’s voice dripped with concern.

“I know.” My magic flowed from my hands. “It’s time. We got this.”

Chapter 34

Leo

He wouldn’t want me to be caught. It wasn’t part of his plan and the plan had to go according to his wishes. I was honored to be part of it. I had to make him proud. The faces of the many stood jammed into my new room in the lower level of Evermore Academy, and it has pleased him greatly.

I dropped my voice so low it was barely above a whisper. “Remember, he wants his army to be great. To stand for what they want. There is a plan; there is a way. Bring him more. Be discrete. We only have a few moments then this distraction will be over, and they will be back to watch our every move.”
