The truth was that I didn’t care. I wanted to be alone for a few hours and not think. I didn’t want to think about the curse, or the prophecy, or the fact that I’d done the exact opposite of what I’d set out to do. I’d hurt Piper, and for that I deserved nothing less than to lie here like a sad sack until I figured something out.
“Dice. The hot, crazy friend.”
That got my attention. “What of her?”
“She’s missing.” Sav scrubbed his hand down his face.
I jumped out of bed and grabbed my cell phone from the side table. “So, what the hell are you doing here? Why aren’t you out looking? You’ve got to make Piper’s death smooth for the human.”
“I’ve got Jester on it.” He was so calm.
If I lost or hurt Piper’s best friend, she’d never speak to me again. Not after the last few days. “I’m calling in reinforcements.”
“Oh, the faith you have in me and my men. Warms the places in my cold, dead heart,” he groaned.
I glared at him while I searched for the number. “So, what are you doing here, fretting about me and my progeny?”
“You must take her out. Go to London, see the lights, do something simple,” he moved to the bookshelf in my room and pulled a book off it, “instead of acting like a stroppy cow.”
Cocky little git. “Why exactly are you concerned about this?”
It was no secret that Sav didn’t show love or concern for anyone. Yet here he was worrying about Piper and her well-being. He shoved the book back on the shelf. “She doesn’t bother me too much.”
“So?” I wasn’t leaving this room.
“So, she can’t stay locked up here. It’ll drive her mad, which will drive you mad, which will drive me mad. In truth, I’m just saving myself here.”
I found the number and hit send. It barely rang before it was answered. “Sup, Leech?”
“Kylian,” I greeted him.
Sav waved his arm at me to get my attention. “You’re calling the Dark Elf Prince to find a human?”
I placed my hand over the bottom of the phone. “So?”
“That’s a horrible idea. Pull your head from your arse and stop this.”
I was going to kill him. “Since when do you care?”
“Since now.”
I uncovered the phone. “I’ve lost something I need finding.”
“This is a mistake.” He shook his head. “You need to go with Piper.”
“You’re so concerned with Piper, you take her then.” I waved him away. If I didn’t make sure Dice was okay, Piper would never speak to me. As it was now, she might not anyways. I’d messed up royally. For that I had to set everything else right, and it would start with her bestie. The one person she cherished above all others.
“Fine. I will.” He spun on his heels and marched out the door, slamming it behind him.
Kylian sighed on the other end of the line. “Getting bored now.”
“Right. Yes. I need you to find a girl.”

PIPER
“Are you sure you want to do this?”
