“So… we can give this a go, Mr. Harrington?”

“Kane. Call me Kane.”

He lifted off me and brought me with him, then turned me to face him. We probably looked ridiculous with our slacks and underwear wrapped around our ankles, but I couldn’t be bothered to care.

“Kane,” I whispered.

“Yes, I want to give this a go.”

His long fingers gently ran through my hair and dragged down my face as his aqua eyes never left mine. He leaned down and kissed me again. This time, it was tender and full of affection. What a contrast compared to what we’d done only moments ago. The kiss was full of promises and hope.

“You’re going to come by at my place Friday night, and I’m going to show you how much I really want you.”

“God, that’s so far away.”

His rumbling laugh was a warm balm to my soul. “Feeling needy already?”

I nodded in his chest, gripping his back underneath his dress shirt.

“Very well, be here early each morning, and we can wake our cocks up together before work.”

I glanced up at him, wide-eyed. “Yes, please.”

God, I wanted to eat up the sweet smile that completely brightened his face.

We both got cleaned up, and after I left his office with a stupid grin on my face, I reminded myself to tell Jules she was no longer my ex-best friend and instead was my bestest of best friends.

Chapter 6

Kane

It was Friday night. Myles sat on my lap at the kitchen table as I fed him a bite of roasted potatoes, then kissed his throat, feeling him swallow on my lips. I’d always wanted to take care of someone like this, and it wasn’t the first time I’d imagined him on my lap as I fed him.

Myles and I had been having a lot of fun getting to know each other intimately over the past week, breaking every damn rule that I had, and I found I was okay with that. I hated that he would eventually leave me for his new business, but at least we wouldn’t have to hide ourselves at work, and I was fucking proud of him for pushing himself to take a risk for his future.

Tonight was different. We’d been playing naughty PA all week, but we hadn’t had sex again. Now, it was time I showed Myles that I cared about him and could be intimate because I wanted to make this more than about fun. He was someone I was interested in for the long haul. I had known Myles for three years, and he was a good soul, intelligent, funny, organized, and sexy as hell.

He grabbed the glass of wine on the table and brought it to my lips. I took a sip before he put it back.

“Tell me more about your business,” I said.

Myles stabbed his fork in the salad and took a bite of lettuce and tomato while the fingers on his other hand rested on my neck, playing with my hair.

“As you know, I want to open a bookstore, but this will specialize in LGBTQ+ books. Not just by queer authors, but will sell all the queer books I can find. I’ve been saving my money for what feels like forever. But now I’ve got my loan, which will take an eternity to pay back, and I’ve put it down on a shop. It’s taking a while to build up the stock and get the place to how I want it. It’s been a lot of work on the side while working for you.”

“Sounds wonderful. When are your plans to open?”

He shrugged and took a sip of red wine before I fed him a bite of chicken in salsa verde sauce. “It’s going to be awhile still. Six months at least.”

“I’m going to pay you the rest of your salary for six months and let you work on your store. I’ll find someone to replace you.”

His hazel eyes widened. “What? I… I appreciate that, but I’m not here with you for favors or special privileges, Kane.”

“I know you aren’t, but I know how hard it is to start your own business from the ground up and how much work it takes. Working full-time for me will set you back longer than six months.”

He looked away, uncertain. I couldn’t blame him. He wanted to do this on his own. This was just a little nudge to make life easier for him. That was all.

“Thank you,” he whispered.
