I nodded and tried to relax. “This is so much money, though, and the place is expensive. If I fail, it’s going to suck. God, I don’t want to go back to being a PA”
“You won’t,” Tanner said, walking up to us and dwarfing me with his bro hug. “Your little store is gorgeous.”
“Thanks, Tan.”
“Well, think of it this way. If you fail, Kane can be your sugar daddy.”
“Not helping, Jules.”
Skye came up and gave me a tight hug. “You’re going to do great.”
I nodded and chewed on my bottom lip. I wished Kane was here, but I’d see him later.
Jules draped an arm around my shoulder. “So, how are you and the hottie boss doing? You two are so cute together. We all love him, you know.”
I rolled my eyes but smiled. “We’re perfect.”
“I’m still waiting on my thank you for pushing you onto him.”
“Well, it took a while as I debated if Tanner was at the top of the list as my best friend and you at the bottom.”
Jules feigned shock and mimed ripping a knife out of her chest, while Tanner barked a laugh. “You’re so mean.”
“You were mean for playing that trick on me, but it all worked out. I’m in love, after all.”
She laughed and kissed my cheek. “See? I’m your bestest friend.”
I hated how it all started. It had been so humiliating, but being with Kane had been amazing. He was so damn hot and sexy and so controlling during sex. I loved how he overpowered me, claimed me, and owned me.
I wish he could’ve been here for opening day, but he said he’d be by later, after work, to take me to dinner to celebrate.
I clapped to get everyone’s attention. “Alright, let’s get ready. We’re opening up in five minutes.”
I only had a couple of people on staff, along with a cook and someone to run the café counter, but my plan was to work through most of the days myself. Once I made a profit, I’d hire more people.
I walked to the front of the store and raised the blinds over the windows and front door, only to stop and gasp at the line of people waiting outside to get in.
“See? People are going to love this place, Myles,” Jules said.
“God, I think you’re right.”
“I’m always right.”
When the clock turned ten, I opened the doors to a rush of people of all shapes and sizes. Some looked at books, others looked at bookish stuff, while some ordered coffee and pastries.
I stood by the front window and watched the customers as my stomach twisted in a good way, realizing I could do this. I could run my own business and be successful at it.
“Excuse me, but I’d like to buy this book,” said a deep voice that I would recognize anywhere.
My heart stopped, and I gasped as I turned around to face none other than my hot and sexy boyfriend, Kane Harrington. He looked so handsome in his navy suit with a teal and red polka-dotted tie that brought out his ocean eyes.
Kane leaned down and kissed me, but it was brief and not nearly long enough.
“What are you doing here?”
“Surprise. Do you really believe I would miss your opening day?”
I flung myself at him, and he held me close against his hard body, and I inhaled his yummy, masculine scent. “Thank you. God, I love you.”
