Chapter 5
Lawson
Ihave a date. Me. Lawson Masters. Has a date with the hottest man I’ve ever met.
“This has to be a prank.” I bounce on my toes. “Someone spiked my punch last night, or I caught some strange flu… either way, this isn't real, right?”
Noah shakes his head at my antics.
Despite my words, I can’t stop smiling like a fool.
“It’s no prank,” Noah smirks. “It’s totally real.”
Noah is standing by my sink in my kitchen eating a bowl of my sugary cereal while I pace around my small apartment. I’ve been on a lot of innocent dates before and after Carter, but none of them went past dinner. I also never went on a date with someone I had a crush on before. I felt like I should have experienced these types of nerves back in high school.
I shake my head in denial. “There's no way Victor is really interested.”
“Umm, he’s totally interested. I saw the way he was chatting with you last night. He was so awestruck, it was like you were the freaking Queen of England.”
Smiling to myself, I remember how he got so protective of me. We entered the house expecting some type of drama, but Noah found us immediately, apologized, and told us he’d asked Michelle and Carter to leave.
I was so touched. I couldn’t believe Noah did that for me and prayed it wouldn’t affect our work environment even more. Although, she really should have been embarrassed for acting like a teenager rather than someone we are supposed to look up to.
When I found out Carter had left, my coiled muscles relaxed, and I was able to enjoy myself. Victor and I spent the rest of the night chatting and dancing. And damn, the man is a really good dancer.
I would be embarrassed by the giddy smile on my face if it were anyone but Noah standing here in front of me. But holy shit. Victor is into me. “Oh god. I’m going on a date with my boss’s son.”
Noah’s spoon clatters against the bowl before he carefully sets it on the counter. His mouth is hanging open in shock. “Wait. Wait. Wait. Victor is Ella Gray’s son?”
“Oh my god, did I not tell you?” I clap a hand over my mouth. “Maybe,” I reply, my voice muffled.
“You little brat,” Noah charges forward and tickles my sides. “You didn’t tell me! How the hell did I not know this?”
“What the heck. Stop. My hair,” I choke out between laughs. “You’re going to mess up my hair. Get off me. I’m about to go on a date.” I squeal.
Noah laughs. “Come on, I saw Rowan style Jules’s hair plenty of times. You both have the same crazy curls. Let me help style it.”
Showing me how to style my hair into a casual pile on top of my head, I’m impressed with what Noah does with it. Victor said I could dress as casually as I wanted, so I opt for a plain v-neck, a nice pair of jeans, and my leather jacket.
I glance in the mirror. I look good. Confident. Happy.
Then a knock on the front door of my apartment has me jumping nervously.
“I’ll get it,” Noah sings. “Are you ready?”
Before I can answer, Noah rushes forward and throws the door open.
“Hey Noah, nice to see you. Is my date here?” Victor’s deep, smooth voice washes over me.
“Sure is.” Noah pushes the door open wider and finally my gaze meets his. My breath catches. He’s so damn sexy wearing a dark red t-shirt and black jeans rolled just above his ankles where he sports a pair of stylish black boots.
Fuck, he looks delicious. Yeah, this must be a punch-spiked dream. There’s no way he’s here.
He straightens as soon as he sees me. I vaguely hear Noah say goodbye, and I think I mumble something back.
A smile tugs at Victor's full lips, probably entertained by how distracted I am by him. Surely, this man has to know the effect he has on people.
Closing the distance between us, I look up into his eyes. “Hi.”
