The office door is open when I walk in. My grin falters when I don’t see her.

“Bathroom?” I turn to Trevor.

“I don’t know,” he grumbles and leans back in his chair to try and relax.

“I’ll be back.”

I leave the food and look into the women’s bathroom, hoping to startle her. Then, the men’s room. Huh.

She isn’t anywhere I look. I even go upstairs to make sure she isn’t playing a game with me. Nothing.

Did I miss her?

I get back to the office and Trevor’s eyes crack open.

“You find her?”

“No,” I look around like she’s hiding somewhere. I check under the desk, too. I’ve spent a lot of time under there. If it can fit me, she could use it as an apartment.

“Her computer is here,” Trev motions to it. The screen has gone blank with how long it’s been inactive.

“Something’s not right.” I say the words out loud as I rub the back of my neck. I have a feeling of impending doom slowly trickling into my system. I don’t like this.

“Relax. She’s fine,” Trevor’s eyes close again.

I can’t relax. She isn’t here. How is he not freaked out right now? Fuck, his meds are messing with him. He’s almost asleep.

I pace around the main room and go outside to see if she’s taking one of her famous ‘breathers.’

I walk around the entire building before I notice that her car is gone.

That sick feeling hits me in the gut like a punch now.

I rush back to the office. I have to push past Sal when she steps in my way. I don’t have time for her petty bullshit.

“Trev,” I snap.

“What?” He barks back. He doesn’t open his eyes.

“Her car is gone.”

“What?” His eyes open, but they’re heavy-lidded.

“Tera’s car is gone,” I look around the floor for her purse. It’s missing, too.

“What the fuck?” I pull a hand through my hair in frustration. “Did she get scared? I came on way too strong. Did I fuck it up?”

Trev leans his elbows onto the desk in confusion. “She was fine.”

“Then where the fuck is she?” I stifle the shout into a terse tone.

“I don’t know,” Trev pulls out his phone and scrolls to her name.

I hear it ringing and her sunny voice telling him to leave a message.

“Hey, babygirl. Where are you? Call me back. It’s Trevor.”

His voice is listless as he speaks. Damn it, I need angry Trevor right now, not drugged up on pain meds Trevor.
