She hadn't seen it at the time, but it was all those wrongs that somehow made everything in her world go right. How did one even begin to regret a single thing that happened?
The brush of a sudden breeze tugged at her hair as the front door opened and in he walked.
Daddy… Hamish… the love of her life.
Setting groceries down on the table, he came up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist.
“Looks good,” he praised the placard.
She smiled. “Thank you, Daddy.”
His warm breath caressed the shell of her ear as he murmured, “You look better.”
She grinned and turned in his arms, gazing up into those green eyes she loved so much.
“I love you,” she said, just to watch his expression soften.
“I love you more,” he replied, pulling her in close. “I'm going to show you how much every day to the end of time.”
They both would.
Because that's what lovers did when at last they found one another. They held on, standing together, having and holding, loving and cherishing, through the good times and bad.
Forever.
The best happily ever after she never knew she needed. But he did, and in his arms Chloe knew she would never again have to face the hard things on her own.
Daddy wouldn't let her.
And that was exactly as it was meant to be.
The End
