Page 16 of Romancing the Omega

Caden parked at the back of the bookstore. The buildings on the street all had living spaces above them, so there were covered parking spaces behind them. Zoe carried a bag of groceries in one hand as she walked up the steps to her apartment over the bakery. She grinned when she saw him unloading the cat carrier. “Good luck,” she said, shaking her head and opening her door.

It was seven in the evening, so Yeo should be home now. Caden somehow managed to get Sassy, Huckleberry, and the cat up the back stairs and to the spacious balcony attached to Yeo’s building. The front door to the apartment was painted blue, making Caden smile. He knocked and waited.

Summer opened the door, grinning when she saw him. “Well, now,” she said. “Yeo! Your boyfriend’s here.”

“What are you talking about?” Yeo came to stand behind her. He blushed, then looked down at his outfit. The omega was usually impeccably dressed. Now he wore plain grey yoga pants, pink unicorn socks, and a pink, long-sleeved shirt covered with narwhals. Cute, black framed glasses perched on his nose. “Summer, why didn’t you say,” he hissed at his sister.

“You look beautiful,” Caden said, meaning every single word. His angel was adorable.

“Come on in,” Summer said, her southern drawl slipping out. “It’s cold out there.”

“I brought you a gift, Yeo,” he said.

“Two in one day? You wild man, you,” Yeo said, eyes teasing. He looked at the cat carrier. “What on earth is that?” Summer wasn’t the only one with a southern drawl.

“He’s a Maine Coon cat,” Caden said. “You mentioned wanting a pet one day.”

Yeo squealed and picked up the carrier. “He’s so heavy.” He carried him into his home and Caden followed behind him with Sassy and Huckleberry.

“Cay Cay,” Linc said, walking to him. He held his arms up. “Up.” Caden didn’t even try to resist. He picked the little boy up and was rewarded with a sloppy kiss on his cheek.

“Aren’t you just the cutest thing in the whole world,” Yeo said, cooing at the big cat as he slowly crawled out of the carrier and looked around. “You’re just a gorgeous boy.”

“I think you broke him,” Summer said, laughter in her voice. “Good god, look at him.”

Yeo sat on the floor, lap full of cat. “Who’s my pretty boy? Who?”

“Yep. He’s broken,” Summer said. “Come on. I’ll show you around.”

Caden loved their home. His cabin was big and fancy, but this place was a home. It was colorful, warm, and welcoming. Summer showed him the bedrooms, then knocked on one of the walls in the hall. “There’s a bunch of nothing on the other side of the wall here. Yeo says he may use the space in the future, but we were in a hurry when we renovated the place.”

“Magnolia is the best gift in the whole world,” Yeo said, surprising Caden with a hug. The omega’s face was pressed against Huckleberry, but he didn’t seem to mind. Caden sure as hell didn’t mind. His omega was in his arms. Linc patted his papa’s head and giggled. Yeo lifted his face and pressed his lips to Caden’s. The world faded away until Yeo’s taste was the only thing that existed. It ended too soon. Linc pressed kiss after kiss on Caden and Yeo’s cheeks. Giggling between each one. Yeo pulled a few rabbit hairs off his lips, eyes watching Caden shyly.

“Wow,” Summer said. “That was seriously the least romantic first kiss I’ve ever seen. Not great timing, bro.”

Caden shook his head. “It was perfect.”
