Page 40 of Romancing the Omega

Chapter Thirteen

Caden drove Marco’s truck, while Carter slept in the passenger seat. Huckleberry rode in a carrier between them. Caden’s bunny hadn’t wanted to be left behind with Zoe like Sassy and Magnolia. Carter had teased him when he saw the rabbit, but Caden didn’t care. Yeo hadn’t blinked an eye at Huck, Caden thought, smirking. His omega was a good one. They pulled a large horse trailer behind them.

Bennett’s alpha had lent them four of his trailers plus his truck. Marco had wanted to come, but he couldn’t find someone to take care of his cattle last minute. Gramps and Grammy pulled another trailer, and Ray and Juan pulled a third. Tanner and Justin pulled the last trailer. Caden hoped there was enough space to carry any animals Yeo’s papa and brothers wanted to keep. From what Ray said, there were quite a few. Dean’s little farm had been full of animals.

Yeo and Bennett drove Harper’s jeep, and Summer, Linc, and Hannah rode with them. Caden smiled, thinking about the last gas stop. Bennett and Yeo were so damn sweet together. Yeo had told his best friend about the baby, and the last time Caden saw them, they were giggling and planning the nursery.

Abel, Grey, and the rest of the Wilsons were getting the cabin ready. It was smaller than his parents’ cabin, but it had three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The bedrooms were large, though, so maybe the boys wouldn’t mind sharing. Gramps had already found a place for Yeo’s oldest half-brother in case he wanted to live on his own.

Caden looked at Carter. His brother hadn’t even hesitated in agreeing to come with him. They hadn’t spoken much, but it was a twenty hour drive and they weren’t stopping, so one of them needed to be sleeping when the other wasn’t. It was nice, though, knowing Carter had his back.

They arrived outside Jackson at seven in the morning on Saturday. Carter dropped Caden and Huck off at Dean’s house, then the trucks and trailers headed to the neighbor’s house. Ray had already spoken with him about taking the animals. Dean and his boys had four horses, two milk cows, a donkey, three miniature pigs, and a bunch of chickens. They also had three dogs, four cats, and two hamsters.

It had bothered Yeo quite a bit to know his brothers had to give up their precious pets. Frankly, it surprised Caden that Dean’s alpha had let them have so many pets. The man didn’t sound like a loving father and husband. Caden looked around. The house was tiny and rundown. Despite that, the yard was clean and neat, even in late March.

Yeo carried Linc and jogged over to Caden, waiting as he strapped Huckleberry into his sling. “What if Papa doesn’t want to see me? What if he doesn’t want to move?” He bit his lip. “Should I have called first?”

“Ray couldn’t find a number, angel,” Caden reminded him. “Don’t worry. He loves you.”

“Come on, Yeo,” Bennett said. “Don’t you want to see your papa?”

“Yes,” Yeo said, longing filling his voice.

“We’re so close to Nashville,” Summer said. “I wish we knew he lived here before. We could have visited him. We could have been sneaky about it.”

“Come on, angel.” Caden took his hand, and they walked to the door.

A man opened the door before they arrived. He was older, in his late forties. His features told Caden this was Yeo’s papa. He looked like an older version of Caden’s omega, with white hair at his temples and a few lines at his eyes. There was uncertainty and confusion in Dean’s black eyes. A hand rose to cover the ugly scars on his face.

“Papa?” Yeo pulled Caden forward, running to his omega father. The man stared in disbelief, but opened his arms to catch his son.

“Yeo? What are doing here?” He leaned back and cupped Yeo’s face. Tears started to stream down the man’s scarred cheeks. “You’re so beautiful, baby boy. Look at you.” He hugged Yeo and Linc tight. Caden was content to let Yeo use his hand, even if it was held at an awkward angle now.

“I don’t hate you, Papa.” Yeo spoke too fast, words jumbling together. “Derek lied to you on the phone. I had to change my number because I moved, but Fawn was going to give you my new number. I love you, Papa. I swear.”

“Oh,” Dean said, rubbing his cheek to his son’s. “I didn’t think you hated me, baby boy. I planned on calling back another time.”

“Promise?”

“Yes.” He looked Linc over. “This is Lincoln? He looks just like you!”

“Like you both,” Caden said, smiling softly.

Dean smiled, pleased. “He does, doesn’t he?”

“Papa?” A young man looked over Dean’s shoulder. He looked exhausted and rubbed the sleep from his eyes.

“Jackson, this is your older brother, Yeo,” Dean said. “This is your nephew, Lincoln.”

“Damn,” Jackson said. “You two look just like Papa, Jimmy, and Grandpapa.” Yeo’s brother was short, but sturdy. He had light brown skin, green eyes, and a ton of freckles. He grinned at Yeo and reached for Linc’s foot, giving it a tug. “Hey there, buddy. I should watch my mouth, huh?”

“Come in, come in,” Dean said. “I can’t believe I’ve left y’all at the door.” He tugged them inside, then waved Bennett, Summer, and Hannah in too. The house was tiny, Caden thought. He could probably fit three of these in his lake cabin. It was neat and clean, though, even if it was sparse.

“This is Caden,” Yeo said, holding up their joined hands. “He’s my alpha.”

“Nice rabbit,” Jackson said, smirking.

“Rabbit?” Two boys ran over from the kitchen. The youngest one reached out and stroked Huck’s ears. “He’s so soft,” the little boy said. He looked like a miniature of Jackson.
