“Because they’re still more wolves than human, on top of being rowdy and moon drunk. Like, hopefully none of them piss on your chair legs.”

“They would never!”

“Get over here,” I growled, tired of arguing with her.

The mating bond flared with Shiloh’s amusement and her stubbornness. “If you want me so bad, come and get me.”

There was a momentary standoff, and then I hauled myself over the bar, swiping an arm out for my mate.

I barely missed, and with a shriek, Shiloh took off running toward the back door. I chased after her and caught up in three strides, wrapping my arms around her waist and lifting her off the ground to her shrieking laughter.

“Oh, where to sink into you before we have an audience?” I nibbled her neck as I turned in a circle. “Hm, on top of the dishwasher? Or the counter? Maybe I could just bend you over these kegs.”

Just as I was about to come to a decision, the roar of motorcycles floated up the road into Stout & Spirit’s driveway.

“Fuck.” I rested my forehead on the back of Shiloh’s head while she patted my arm sympathetically.

“Go get dressed, and I promise we’ll get good and naked once everyone leaves again.”

“Tell them you’re closed,” I groaned into her neck.

“I tried that on you and it didn’t work, remember?”

I laughed, setting her gently on her feet. “But we do work.”

“We do,” she agreed, kissing my shoulder where her marks were displayed.

“Tell them I’ll be right down.”

With a final kiss, I released her and went out the rear door to the stairs leading up to her apartment. I let myself in, then hastily dressed in one of the few changes of clothes I kept here.

Since officially mating two weeks ago, Shiloh and I spent days at a time at each other’s places. We talked briefly about getting our own place but were in no rush. We just wanted to enjoy being newly mated, it didn’t matter where we laid our heads at night as long as we were together.

Even though it was well into autumn and the nights were getting cooler, I pulled on a sleeveless T-shirt. Ever since Shiloh had left her marks in my arm, I wanted to show them off. Likewise, she’d taken to wearing tops that showed off her neck and wore her hair up more often.

And through our bond, we could feel how much the other loved showing their claim.

In the drawer I kept my clothes, I reached toward the back, hunting for the small box I’d stashed there last week. With a quick peek under the lid, I knew tonight was the night to give it to her.

The full moon was out, and we had the whole pack under one roof. What better time than now? I stuck the box in my jeans pocket and headed out.

The bar was already lively with noise as I came down the stairs, but two figures stood next to the back door, talking quietly away from the party. I inhaled and picked up the scents of Tryn and Fallon.

“Hey guys,” I greeted them when I hit the ground. “What are you doing back here?”

Tryn was frowning, his thick brow pinched and his arms crossed in front of him. “I don’t get it,” he muttered. “I’ve never seen it before.”

“Seen what?” I looked at Fallon for answers, but he remained tight-lipped.

“There’s a fate thread extending from me out to the distance.” Tryn pointed in the direction he was looking, but there was nothing distinctive in sight besides the moon, sky, and the dark silhouettes of the woods.

“Okay, so?”

The other wolf looked at me sharply. “I’ve never been able to see my own fate threads before. Ever. This is unprecedented, and it’s freaking me out.”

“Oh.” Yeah, I’d remembered him telling me that before.

“I told him there’s a portal to the human world that way,” Fallon said, looking at Tryn. “Looks like your destiny takes you to the land of humans, my man.”
