“An Earth term?”
“It is one Davy likes. I prefer stupid.”
“I can agree with that. They must pick the dumbest ones they can.”
“Those are easier to recruit. The stupid ones and those zealots looking for a cause are easy.”
“What will you be doing now?” He asked.
“We’ve upped security, given Kitty a guard that stays just out of sight, and we are questioning and searching all ships that enter or exit the port. For now, until we get other clues, that’s all we can do.”
“Keep me informed.”
“Always.” Jarel answered.
Jarel and his mate were good, and they did keep him informed. They had even told him things before it was their job to do so. He and Erak, of course, since they worked directly for the king most of the time. Their information had helped them discover Davy’s direct supervisor at the time had been conspiring with the rogues. Had Davy not had access to Erak and he they might never have known.
It was time to leave and get back to work. His PA Aldurnon, or Al for short, would be hard at work to make his life a bit easier. There would still be a pile of paperwork that needed tamed. When he arrived there, he saw that was the case.
“Hello, Sire. I left a list of needed tasks that only you can do.” Al explained.
“Thank you. I’ll look it over.” He saw immediately that he would be behind all day. Calling his secretary in, they immediately worked through Al’s list as those items were the most important and many dealt with the kings who were also busy most of the time.
One item was from Erak involving a rebel attack. That could be marked off the list since they’d already discussed that. Now he had three kings to contact and the most important things would be dealt with. Four lords, and three rich merchants and he would be done. By the time that was finished, he was certain it was supper time.
He hurried to knock on Kitty’s door, but no one answered. Now he went to the cafeteria and there she was sitting with no food in front of her. Dare he hope she’d not been fed yet? “May I sit with you?”
“Certainly. Any news on the attack?”
Their food was brought and set before them. The plates were full, and everything looked good.
“Not much of any help. They recruited different males giving them each a different story, but none were correct.”
“Really? There was a group on Earth that was known for doing that. They never caught the leaders, but several of the males and even some of those just under the leaders were caught. Maybe they are connected to these people.”
“I’ll tell Davy and see what she can track down.” He responded.
“I’ll see you later.” Kitty said as she finished her meal.
“You’re not going to work all night, again are you?”
“Wh-what? How did you know I was up all night?”
“The light in the window is easy to see from outside. It gets reported as unusual activity and often checked on. I told them not to because I’ve heard you work too much.”
“I suppose I do work too much. Tonight, I’m tired and I’ll get some rest.” Kitty walked away.
It was odd how slow the evening went even with supper with Kitty. He supposed he was looking forward to the picnic at Dori’s. Wait, he wasn’t sure where it would be. He went to sleep, and the morning came quickly. He went looking for Kitty.
“Kitty, do you know where the picnic will be?”
“It will be at Mom’s because she had Garulto put in a new outdoor kitchen and enlarge the pit. She’s wanting to show it off and the new Earth ingredients she’s finally managed to grow in her garden. Mom’s making sauerkraut with brats and German potato salad.”
“I’ve never heard of those. I mean I’ve heard of potato salad but not this German kind. I guess I’ll be able to try it soon enough. Any plans for today?”
“Not yet. Earl has been keeping up on most paperwork. He’s a blessing, believe me.” Kitty enthused.
“Why wouldn’t I believe you?”
