“They tell few anything at all and none anything about their group.”
“That’s what has hurt us the most. We catch plenty of their people, but even those directly in their group know little and the leaders are never out front where they might be caught.”
“Were many killed in this attack?”
“Maybe two.”
“That showed restraint.” She admitted.
“They were misguided fools.”
“I think Earth should inform its people.”
“You no longer consider yourself one of those people?”
“No. I’ll always love Earth and it will always be the planet of my youth. Draconis is now where I live and where my loyalty must be.”
“Well said.” His mate always seemed to know what to say. It was an amazing talent that would aid her in her position of Empress. As far as he was concerned, that couldn’t come soon enough.
“Now that we are done here, I suppose we should eat lunch.” He suggested.
“You don’t make me enthusiastic about eating here.”
“Maybe you could cook?”
“Mom said few of your kitchens have spices since your people never used to cook with them.”
“It’s true. Food was a need not a luxury. Trying new things could cause a waste if they turned out terrible.”
“Even unspiced food can be burned or dry out.”
“That’s true too but the thought was why take extra chances?”
“So, you can truly enjoy your meals?” She suggested.
“You’ve got me there. Let’s fly back to Erak’s castle.”
“Okay. Maybe we can finish the tour another time.”
“I’d love to. Maybe in a few days.” He agreed as he rushed her up the stairs. Things had changed in a moment of time.
He’d gone from a fun day to one full of danger and concerns. Taking her home was no problem. He needed to talk to Erak, and the other kings and those talks needed to be in person. Because the kings were so ridiculously competitive, meeting all at once was not a good idea. Erak would be first with others summoned to his own castle one at a time. What a waste of his limited resources. Never the less, it was the best thing to do.
Of all his kings, Erak was the most stable. He was also the smartest and least selfish. Maybe he could use this time of trouble to bring his kings closer together? All of them had troubles of this kind but few had alerted him although they should have. Erak was the only one that had told him once he saw the problem was serious.
The colonies had problems too, but that was only to be expected since most of them were far from established. He intended to recruit some tough law officers, possibly even taking a page from Earth’s history. They had hired hardened criminals that wanted to turn legitimate as law officers. In such wild areas, even they would be an improvement for now.
They made it to the roof where the males on duty grabbed a ladder and helped Kitty load on his back. His dragon felt content to have her near for now. He knew it wouldn’t be long before his inner beast wanted more progress in their relationship. His male side knew pushing for more would push her away.
Lifting off, he felt at peace with the world as he soared high above it with his one wrapped around his neck. Nothing would feel this good except flying with her at his side. He could almost imagine it. It was odd how daydreaming could make the time fly by and soon he was at Erak’s castle. They landed on the roof and Kitty dropped off his back in a second.
Once he changed back to his human form, he followed her even though she was moving fast. “Kitty!” She stopped and turned to him. “Where’s the fire?”
“You’re getting back to your work, so I thought it best if I get back to mine.”
He leaned in as she closed her eyes. His lips pressed gently against hers and he let her go quickly. She turned and hurried into her room. It was doubtful that she’d get on her work that fast. On the other hand, he needed to get on his. Once he was in Erak’s entry area, the secretary rang him in once Erak was notified he was there.
Erak sat there with his queen at his side. Would he ever have that bond for himself? They both stepped down to the table where Erak offered him a chair. “Let me order lunch for us and we can have this meeting informally.”
