“What about if I was a cook on Earth?” A female asked.
“There are jobs like that on Draconis too, but you’ll have to be retrained.”
“Why?” She asked looking insulted.
“Do you know their spices, animals, plants?”
“No.”
“Then how can you expect to cook with them?” Kitty asked.
“I understand.”
“Anyone else?”
“I was a rocket scientist. Can I find a job?”
“I’m surprised you haven’t already been offered one. Do they know what you were?”
“I came with my wife. She’s a teacher and already has a job.”
“You should have no trouble.” Kitty assured.
“What about entertainers?” A woman asked.
“What exactly do you do?”
“I’m a singer.” She explained.
Kitty looked at him. “There are possible opportunities. You’ll have to check with employment office nearest where you’ll be. I’ll admit few make a living doing that.” He responded. “Now we have been here a while. Many of your questions can be answered in the units. You have a great day.” People began to leave. “I’m beginning to feel like a politician.” He admitted as he whispered in Kitty’s ear.
She grinned at him. “You’re learning.”
“I don’t want to learn.”
“You’ll have to deal with humans more and more. It’s important to know how to handle them until they begin to adjust.” She pointed out.
He conceded she was right. His tough job just continued to get tougher. “Will it never end?”
“This is where you get people to help. Someone needs to help these people adjust in every way. They need a local that will look out for their best interests rather than that of the crown.”
“I believe I understand what you mean. With so many Earthers coming in, there will be misunderstandings. Someone must deal with those. It needs to be someone who understands our laws.”
“Exactly. Otherwise they are at an unfair advantage.”
“We are heading to Draconis now. The other ship has arrived.”
“Do we need to go to the bridge?” She asked.
“No, there is nothing more to do than head out. Once we meet up with the next ship, we will head out at full speed. There are qualified people dealing with all of this. They will report to me as needed.”
“It’s good to have people like that in charge.”
“The weight of the crown would be impossible without them. We’ve had so much change in such a short time and even good change can weigh heavily on one in charge.” He observed.
“I can see how that is true. How do you feel about a nap before supper?”
“That sounds delightful if we can manage it.”
