“You should go see Betty. Let me take you to her. Maybe she can ease your pain.”

“Okay. Are you sure she’s here?”

“It’s mid-week and she usually works then.” He explained.

They went looking for Betty and she felt sweaty all over. Tiredness began to overtake her. Torr helped her so she wouldn’t fall. “Oh, my goodness. Kitty, what’s wrong.” Betty called out. “Put her on the bed and tell me what is going on.”

She felt him lay her on the bed and he began to talk. “We mated and I believe this is her change, but it seems the hardest one yet.” Torr admitted.

“Tomi’s was harder than the rest of us. It seems the higher the level in nobility, the harder the change. I have some things to give her to ease the fever and the pain, but she’ll have to ride it out otherwise.” Betty said. “Here, drink this, Sis.” She felt a warm drink, tea maybe, running down her throat and she swallowed.

At some point she was out, and she had no idea what was happening. When she woke, she was in Torr’s bed and burning up. A young girl was with her and she took a cool cloth and wiped her face. “You need to drink this tea and then take a cool shower.”

“Where is Torr?”

“He was called away, but he’ll be back as soon as he can.” She explained. “Here is the tea.” Holding it up to her lips, the girl tipped it and she swallowed.

It seemed to help almost right away. Now she stood and wobbled to the bathroom where she stripped and took an ice-cold shower. That helped but she knew it would only help for a while. There was a thin and comfortable night gown to wear and then she went back to bed and instantly fell asleep.

She woke soaked in sweat, but she felt better. The young girl had fallen asleep, so she left her where she was and went to take another shower. This time she dressed in her usual clothes and went to find Torr. He was in his meeting room and there were others in their too.

“Kitty. Are you alright?” He asked.

“My symptoms are abating. What’s going on now?”

“Erak’s people have isolated a large enemy cell. We’re sending troops after them and possibly armed drones.”

“Do you know who they are?”

“We believe they are rogues with humans from Earth filling out their ranks. No one knows for sure how they got so many to come here.” Torr admitted. “For now, we have no choice but to decimate them.”

“But most of the humans are misguided. Death is a high cost to pay for foolishness.”

“True, but what choice do we have? The fools plan to kill us.”

“Perhaps we can capture a few and explain things to them then send them back?” She suggested.

“They will probably kill them as soon as they see them.”

“That will make the others run. Better to get a few killed than all of them.” Kitty pointed out.

“Okay. Send in a small team to capture a few fools. Have them brought here.” Now they would wait. “Everyone can go take a break for now.” Once everyone left, he took her arm and escorted her to the garden. “This is a good spot to try to change.”

“What do I do?”

“You imagine your dragon and call to her. Tell her you want to see her and so does her mate.”

“Oh my.” She said just before she changed.

She looked down at a charcoal gray foot. Her dragon was smaller than most males and she was perfectly formed. She would be able to fly, just not in the garden which was a tight fit as it was. When she changed back, Torr was speechless, and his eyes held admiration.

“I can’t wait until we fly together, my love.”

“I can’t wait until we fly. My dragon is antsy and ready to go. It will be amazing.”

“If only we could go now. But we have to wait. How are you feeling?”

“Tired and hungry. I guess that’s to be expected.” She said.
