“It is. Let me take you to eat. Then you can rest until something happens.”
That’s exactly what they did. She’d never eaten so much food before in her life. The dragon inside her kept wanting more until finally she was satisfied for now. When he took her to his room, she laid down in his bed. Torr laid down with her and snuggled up with her. Sleep came easily and she would sleep until she was woke.
A couple hours later, she heard a com buzz. “What is it?”
“They captured five humans from the enemy camp. They are showing them films of what is going on. Soon, they’ll send them back and we’ll see what happens.” Torr explained.
“That sounds good. Now let’s go back to sleep.” He wrapped himself around her and she sank back into sleep. When she woke, he was gone.
She felt rested and relaxed but starving to death. Getting up she ran to the cafeteria where she ate her fill of the food they brought her. Now it was time to hunt her mate down. It still seemed surreal that they were mated but it would become more real in time. Torr was easy to find since he was in the meeting room.
“Are you alright?” He asked.
“I’m feeling much better. How did things go?”
“We let the guys go, but only three returned to where they were originally. They killed one of them before all hell broke loose. It seems they were outnumbered five to one with humans. Chaos ensued and the leaders ran away leaving their regular guys to deal with it. Once they saw their leaders were gone, they stopped fighting and the rogue army dispersed.”
“Is that good for us?” She asked.
“It could be. We have people out there trying to bring them into the fold. We are having limited luck with those we find. The humans don’t seem to trust us. Some of the dragons have come back. Their families are a big lure.”
“Mine would be the biggest. That should be no surprise. Those humans that were involved in this might have family they want to see. Maybe bringing them to them would help?”
“But we can’t let them return if we bring them here.” Torr pointed out.
“Why don’t you run their families through the system to see if they qualify? If they do, sign them up and see of they want to come here?”
“We could try it. Maybe if they have a leader, we could negotiate with him.”
“How would you find their leader?” She asked.
“I’ll send one of the guys that is already working at finding them to discuss a deal.”
“So, we’ll be waiting again?”
“There’s a lot of that, my empress, in what we do.” Torr explained.
“I thought I had learned patience, but it looks like I need more.”
“I’ve not learned as much as I need either.”
“Maybe we can distract each other until we have some answers? We do have your program to work on after all.”
“You are right. I’d forgotten all about that with so much going on.” She admitted.
“Why don’t we check to see how things are going. I bet Earl is up on all the latest that’s going on.”
“I think you’re right.”
They headed to her office to see Earl. “Hey Earl. Anything going on with the program?” She asked.
“We have a few people that say they wish they hadn’t come. That’s usual after a large group arrives, is it not?” Earl asked.
“Yes, but they usually settle in a month or two. Have they found jobs?” She asked.
“No and they don’t want mates. All the ones expressing unhappiness are female.”
“That may be because males hesitate to complain fearing they look whiny.”
