There was no warning, but they expected this. Everyone changed to a dragon that could and the fit in the room was tight. The Earther Frick had brought was crushed between the two dragons intended to protect him. That was too bad as he had wanted to question him. Frick was the only fire breather among his group and two of the dragons laid down in surrender.
After all, no one ever really wanted to die, and their cause was not a good one. He faced off with Frick and the fire flew. His was hotter and Frick began to give way. The others went to the door one at a time, changed and exited. Those that were enemies were taken into custody. The final count was four prisoners and one dead.
Frick was getting hit by the hotter fire and he was sweating heavily. Slowly, his fire was pushed back closer and closer to him. At some point, his fire would give away and he would be burnt to ash. It was a painful death fitting a traitor. This had saved them an investigation and a battle.
Frick screamed an awful sound as the fire consumed him. He melted before he turned to ash, and it was horrible. The meeting room would have to be rebuilt and the smell would take a while to remove. Torr collapsed into his seat. While he did feel victorious on one hand, having a traitor so close to him made him feel horrible.
Each king would go through the loyalty oath again. He would also encourage each king to get their lords to swear allegiance once more. Several lords had, after all, also been found to be traitors. Finding a king to replace Frick was no problem. Deciding between Ranger and Garulto was the hard part. Maybe circumstances would decide. An email to Ranger would see where he stood. After that Garulto would be told.
Kitty rushed in throwing her arms around him. Tears tracked down her face as she kissed him. “I was worried for you.”
“You weren’t sure I could win?”
“You could win and still be burned up.”
“That’s true. I have the equivalent of a sunburn, but one of my biggest problems is gone.”
“He left behind plenty to deal with.” She pointed out.
“A problem I can pass on to the new king once I get that selection done.”
“True, but they will need some help. That kingdom may be a nest of vipers.”
“Ah, I know this one. Vipers are poisonous snakes.” He offered.
“You got it. Anyone going in there needs protection.”
Torr knew she was right. Things would be hard to manage in Frick’s kingdom and he worried about other traitors that would be there. He did believe the new king, regardless of who he was, would handle things just fine. Right now, he would send in a temporary leader to begin to straighten things out and investigate whatever was going on in Frick’s kingdom.
“Jarel? I need you and Davy to get together a group to investigate Frick’s activities and bring order in his kingdom. Will you be able to handle it?” He asked.
“We’ll get right on things. Do you have any idea how deep this traitorous behavior goes?” Jarel asked.
“I imagine it will run deep. Many may have run away when he didn’t come back or send word.” He admitted. “Pull a large group to take over to Frick’s castle.”
“Won’t that leave things short here?” Jarel asked.
“Once they find out Frick is gone, they’ll have no leader, besides we’ll call in the trainees and the soldiers on the ships in orbit. There are two right now. Maybe we’ll also call in Dori and her girls. I believe all of them can breathe fire whether they know it or not.” Torr said.
“What makes you think so?” Jarel looked guarded.
“Your mate can breathe fire.” He grinned.
“How did you know?” Jarel asked.
“The look on your faces when I mentioned it.” Torr replied.
“That’s not all.” Jarel leaned in close. “I can breathe it too.”
“That’s amazing. It means they have dragon ancestors.” He declared.
“It does, doesn’t it!” Jarel noted. “That means we may find more on Earth.”
“Dori and her girls mated high in the military and the nobility.” He pointed out.
It was true they’d taken some of the best dragons they had. They must have dragon in their blood. This would be exciting to bring another blood line in to mate with theirs. He would plan to pick up their mating program and check into more mated couples.
“We’ll go now and take the castle under control.” Jarel said as Davy followed him.
