“They knew they couldn’t beat fire breathers.”

“Everyone knows when there is a fight, they can challenge a fire breather to combat without fire.” Jarel pointed out.

“I forgot about that. Tell me, just for my own knowledge, can you breathe fire?”

“Yes, I can.” Jarel replied. He’d known Milem since they were in training.

“Those Earth females must be amazing.”

“My mate is. She is everything to me. I hope you find one just like her.”

“I hope so too. It angers me even more that they risked burning a female. Not that a male wasn’t bad enough.” Milem declared.

It wasn’t long that the squad sent after the perpetrators came back bearing two suspects. They were younglings, maybe teenagers. How foolish could such youngsters be? “Are you sure they did this?” Jarel asked.

Those teenagers were looking a bit scared now. “We are fighting for our king. He’s been over run by soldiers.” One teenager said.

“So, your emperor should be attacked?” Jarel asked.

“It’s a neighboring king that did this.” A teenager said.

“What’s your name?” Jarel asked.

“Storig.”

“Well, Storig, your old king attacked our emperor and he was turned to ash by him. He no longer exists. Now other traitors will be taken out. You’ve done something that requires punishment and we will figure this out.” Jarel explained.

“B-but we were trying to do the right thing.” Storig said.

“You should have checked out the information first. Had someone been in that room, you would have murdered someone. Maybe even a family.” Jarel observed.

“What will you do to us?” He asked.

“I’m unsure. I will get some choices and choose an option.” Jarel decided. “Meanwhile you will be in the barracks under supervision.”

“We’ll be under guard?” Storig asked.

“You tried to kill someone.” Jarel pointed out.

“But no one was hurt.” Storig insisted.

“How do you know?” Jarel asked.

“You would have said so.”

“So, the fact that it’s only because you picked the wrong room should let you off being punished?”

“I expect us to get some punishment, just not anything too harsh.” Storig said.

“Well for now you will be in the barracks. The rest may be decided by the new king or the emperor.” He nodded to the guards who took them away.

“Those kids have no sense.” Milem observed.

“They could have killed people. I still don’t think they realize what they almost did. I probably would have stayed in that room, but my mate didn’t like the idea with the captain being in ash in the hall. He’ll be there a while to since the emperor said to leave him. I’d guess until the new king takes over.”

“I don’t believe he truly knew what was going on.”

“It doesn’t matter. Our emperor didn’t like the way it looked. This whole situation is sad.” Jarel admitted.
