They entered the apartment, once again to the roaring laughter of two women sitting on the couch. This time Oona had a stemless glass of red wine and was holding it on her knee as she sat cross-legged on the couch facing Rayma. He could tell by the flush to her cheeks and the fact that the glass was nearly empty, that she’d imbibed this time.

Her smile fell and her gaze narrowed to nearly slits when they walked in.

Rayma jumped up from the couch and rushed Jordan, throwing her arms around his neck and giving him a kiss. “Missed you, Little Lassie. How was your day?”

Jordan grumbled at her new nickname for him, but his annoyance seemed put on as he wrapped his arms around her and kissed her back. “Not great, not terrible. Nobody died, so I’ll take it for the win it is.”

“Do a lot of people die here?” Oona asked, getting up from the couch and joining them in the kitchen.

Jordan shook his head. “No, so I have more good days than bad.”

Oona’s smile was small as she nodded.

Rayma turned to Aiden. “And how was your day, Big Lassie?”

Aiden snorted from his new nickname and cast a teasing glance Jordan’s way. “Hopped on the bus and explored downtown. Seems like a nice place to live. Lot of homeless people, though.”

Rayma pouted and nodded. “Yeah, it’s gotten really bad. I feel for them.” Then her brows shot up nearly to her hairline. “Well, we had a great day at the dress fittings. Didn’t we, Oons?” She released Jordan and turned to acknowledge her sister.

“Yeah, Rayma has graciously chosen dresses that make us all look good. Nothing froofy or hideous.”

Rayma scoffed. “Like I’d ever dream of having something like that in my wedding photos. I want everyone to be hot.” She snapped. “Which reminds me, Little Lassie,” she turned to Aiden, “Big Lassie, you’re scheduled to go for your fitting tomorrow night after Little Lassie gets off work. He’s going to wear his blue serge uniform. Jace, too. And we weren’t sure if you’d say yes to being a best man or not, so we ordered a set of blues for you, too.”

“I really wish you’d just go back to Lassie,” Jordan said. “The Little part is a bit emasculating.”

“Don’t mind my new nickname,” Aiden said with a chuckle.

Movement to his right made him pivot his head. Oona fidgeted next to the island, twisting a couple of rings around her fingers and contorting her mouth so her lips puckered and moved side to side across her face.

“How was axe throwing?” Rayma asked, switching gears faster than a Formula One driver.

“Really fun,” Jordan replied. “I think you’d like it.”

“Well, we’ll have to go sometime.”

Aiden yawned, which set off a stream of yawns among all of them. The couch hadn’t actually been uncomfortable at all, but his lack of sleep last night had him exhausted now. However, since he was sleeping in the living room, he had to wait until the rest of the house was ready to retire before he could.

“I’m gonna hit the hay,” Jordan said. “Gotta be up early.”

“I hear The Penguin and The Riddler are hatching a new scheme,” Rayma said. “And only Sergeant Little Lassie can save the day.”

Jordan rolled his eyes. “You coming to bed, Brat?”

She nodded. “Yeah, I think so.” Her brown gaze swiveled to Oona. “Do you mind?”

Oona shook her head. “Not at all. I’m pretty beat, too.”

The sisters hugged, then Rayma and Jordan retired to their room, shutting the door, leaving Oona and Aiden alone in the rest of the apartment. Without really realizing it, his gaze swung to the couch where they’d … been that morning.

Her eyes tracked his and they both stood there, staring at the spot where he’d fucked her over a mound of pillows and stuck his thumb in her ass.

Heat filled his cheeks and his pulse picked up speed.

He wanted to swing his gaze to hers, but also knew it was probably a really bad idea.

He showered that morning after his run and planned to go for another run tomorrow, if the weather cooperated, so he didn’t need to shower again. Continuing to avoid looking at the woman who he couldn’t stop thinking about, he walked over to the couch and unfolded it. He knew Oona disappeared into her bedroom and was grateful for it.

When she wasn’t around, he could breathe. He could think clearly and his cock wasn’t nearly as confused.
