He struggled to suppress a groan.

“Right here.” She pushed both hands against his stomach, shoving him out of her personal space.

It was just in time, because her touch had nearly caused him to grab hold of her and plant one on those full, sweet lips.

“Come on.” She headed toward the woods.

“You’re serious?”

“Where’s your gun?” she asked.

He stared after her.

She looked over her shoulder at him. “Let’s go, Shaw.”

He sighed. She wasn’t letting this go.

They walked back to the group in silence. He couldn’t believe she would actually go through with it. She wasn’t that vindictive. Or was she?

Micah laid the camera down on the ground and picked up the gun he’d left lying at Chase’s feet. Shannon quickly snatched it from him.

“You don’t even know how to shoot—”

She pulled the trigger, coloring a spot on the ground with paint.

“Hold on, and I’ll show you how to use it.”

Some of the guys moved toward them and gathered to see what was going on.

Zeb came up beside Shannon before Micah had a chance. “You gonna join the game, Shan?”

“Nope. Just a little target practice.” She aimed the gun at Micah, and Zeb laid his hand on top of it, lowering it to the ground.

“Don’t shoot him at close range like that,” he said.

“He shot me. I think I should get to shoot him back.”

Zeb moved Shannon backwards, while Micah moved the same distance Shannon had been from him when he accidentally shot her.

“There. Now shoot him.” Zeb chuckled as he moved behind her.

Micah stood alone and vulnerable, wincing before Shannon even lifted the gun. “Can’t I put on my vest?” He pointed to the protective gear by Chase’s feet.

“No way! I didn’t have one.” Shannon giggled as she aimed for Micah. “I’m not a very good aim, by the way.”

His arms instinctively crossed in front of his lap, which had everyone laughing.

The end of the gun bobbed up and down with Shannon’s laughter.

“Please don’t fire while you’re laughing,” he pleaded.

“You better move your arms, buddy,” Chase told him.

“Better my arms than my ability to reproduce.”

Shannon’s smile disappeared, and she lowered the gun.

Micah suddenly jumped at the sound of a branch snapping under Zeb’s foot, which revived the laughter.
