Reaching over the table to grab a couple of my fries, “What do you mean?”
“Does a wealthy Platinum member just contacts Vanderbilt with a wad of cash and asks to have his fantasy realized.”
“I guess.”
“Then there’s the organizing of whatever the students want. I mean, wouldn’t it take a lot of red tape burning and messing up of paperwork to have Josh’s charges dropped. Jeez, obviously the S and C has members in every dang crevice and corner of society, including the judicial system.”
Cody leaned back in his seat and blew out a ton of hot air from his mouth. “Fuck, I never stopped to look at it that closely.”
“Which means…” Gretta brought over Cody’s meal, which was always supersized. “Um, Gretta…”
“Yeah,” she said so sweetly, shooting me a nice smile. Maybe she’s over what I did to her in room 23.
“So, do you wanna catch up tonight?” I asked quietly.
“Sure.”
“Someone’s gonna get their rocks off tonight,” Cody sniggered after she left.
“Yeah, hopefully without an audience.”
“What?”
“Nothing.”
I was close to asking him what was a good resource for learning how to fuck better, but I thought he might laugh in my face. I’d seen Cody in action many times at our sleazy frat parties and there was nothing startling about his technique. He was never without a fuck buddy. In fact, girls would practically line up like he’s royalty or something.
He’s with Luca now and seemed happy being a one girl guy. He even bought her a house in the country. Yet I couldn’t ignore the restlessness that plagued him. Normally, he couldn’t give a rat’s ass about anyone but himself, now he refused to stop until he’s found out who’s behind it all.
“So that night…” I began, “when you lost Luca.”
“What about it?” his tone suddenly sinister and threatening.
“Did she get hit?”
“Nah, she was in her room at Munro Hall.”
Liar. I took a large bite of my cheeseburger, watching Gretta’s cute ass cheeks bouncing as she walked. She’s not the type to bring home to unc and aunt, but she’ll do while I’m here at college.
“I know it was you,” I told him, “and I have no plans to tell anyone.”
“Tell anyone what?” in a threatening tone.
“That it was you who killed Cam.”
He clenched his fist holding back the urge to grab my collar and smack me one. “I already told you I found Luca at Munro Hall alive and well.”
“I won’t tell a soul.”
“There’s nothing to tell and quit fucking bugging me about it.” He swept his head around and signaled to Lise Fontaine to come over.
“You’re alright, boys?” she asked.
“Let me know if Fisher needs a hand with anything,” he told her.
Her big blue eyes examined the vicinity before she answered, “They’re borrowing the night cam from their proctor who’s a bird watcher. They did that last time.”
As they chatted, activity by the counter caught my eye. A guy was definitely flirting with Gretta and a strange ball of jealousy churned in my stomach.
