“I think he drugged me,” I finally admitted.

“You think?” Luca asked.

“I was asleep for some time… and woke up on the couch in expensive lingerie.”

They fell quiet, exchanging glances of horror until Lise broke the spell. “Damn that fucking asshole!”

Rhys placed a cold hand on my shoulder in an attempt to comfort me, even though she’s the first to admit that she’s crap at comforting people.

“Why don’t we just end it now?” Luca growled. “I know how to shoot a gun. Let’s go up there to his apartment and put a damn hole between his eyes.”

“Because we need to take down the whole lot of them, Luca,” Lise reminded her. “He’s just the ringleader.”

“I’m guessing you didn’t get him to confess,” Luca assumed.

“No, because she was too drugged to know what the fuck he was doing,” Lise explained the obvious.

“Oh god, he didn’t…you know…touch you while you were passed out?” Rhys asked softly.

“That’s the point, Rhys,” Lise snarled at her. Rhys was such a gentle, sweet soul who was completely out of touch of reality. “That’s why these sleazebag men drug women so they can get off on fucking someone while they’re practically dead,” Lisa shrilled.

“Just calm down, Lise,” I sighed, rubbing my aching temples. “You’re not helping the situation by yelling and biting everyone’s faces off.”

“Sorry,” she answered, calming herself down. “Everyone in this car has been hurt by this rapist club and I just want to see an end to it. I’m frustrated that’s all.”

“Do you think you should get a rape test?” Rhys asked quietly.

“No. I don’t think…it doesn’t feel like he touched me in that way.”

“Are you sure?” Luca exclaimed.

“Positive. Besides, I still haven’t got him to confess to anything. If I get a rape test police will be brought in and we know how useless the KVPD have been. Anyway, he said he’ll call me for another date, so I’ll try again next time. Next time I won’t drink or eat anything.”

“Last chance,” Luca announced, starting up the engine of Cody’s car. “I’ve got a rifle in the trunk. You want me to go up there and shoot him, because I will.”

“No Luca,” I barked at her, more sharply than I intended. She wasn’t joking. None of us were joking. “Let’s go. I just want to go home.”

There were two secrets I kept from my girls.

One. My feelings towards the man who calls himself Dominus. I still hungered for his attention and touch. He was a marvel at making an ordinary girl like me feel special. I’m not an idiot I know I’m nothing to look at compared to the stunning splendor of Luca, the sassy curviness of Lise, and graceful understated beauty of Rhys.

My features are forgettable. My life is unremarkable. I walk this earth heavily yet I never leave a mark. I’m fairly sure there are zero men fantasizing about me at night when they’re lying in bed.

For the first time in my life, I have two handsome men fussing over me. Me, the girl forever in a man drought, because I’m always overlooked for girls like Lise and Luca. Yeah, I know their intentions may not be altogether genuine, but neither are mine.

Two. My childhood connection to him. I knew the kid before the man.

“Are you sure you’re okay?” Lise asked softly, turning back from the front seat to address me.

“I’m fine,” I lie, feeling exhausted and sick to the stomach. Sick for him. I’m so fucked in the head. I just left his lair and the urge to return was so great. I had so many questions I wanted to ask him, so many unwanted feeling played havoc on my body when I was in his company.

“Do you think it’s possible to be in love with someone who you know is bad for you?” I murmured aloud, not expecting anyone to answer.

“Yes,” Lise replied. “Happens all the time and…never ends well.”
