“And exactly what conspiracy do you see playing out here? They dislike each other, or at least that’s the vibe I get from them.”
I thought back to my last confrontation with Aubrey. “Aubrey overheard Tash and me talking about Keys the night she was kicked out of the clubhouse. The girl threatened her sister, me, and the club. Asked if I knew who her daddy was. She sounded as thought she thought he might be able to do something to take us out, and I don’t think she was talking about by having the law on his side.”
“Just because Aubrey is involved with her father doesn’t mean Keys is. The woman made him sign a no contact order, to stay away from her mom. Would she do that and then be a part of his world?” Angel Girl asked.
Her phone beeped and she glanced down, brows creasing, as a frown swept over her face. “Keys called a meeting with our officers and important players working at Redemption Inc.”
“What’s that mean?”
“Either she’s about to come clean, she found our missing girls from Paramour, or she found Legs’ daughter.”
“Legs’ daughter?” Both Sweet and I asked at the same time.
Angel Girl nodded. “Her ex took off with her a few years ago, and no one has been able to track them down. They’re off the grid. Legs’ ex was abusive, so you can see why it would be an all-hands on deck type call if she were found.”
“Right. Go check in and let us know what’s up,” Sweet directed.
“I’ll let you know that I’m okay, but club business is still that. If it affects you guys, I’ll let you know what I can. Otherwise, it’s off limits.” Angel Girl didn’t bother expanding on that before she took off to go meet up with the rest of her club.
“You think Keys is coming clean to them?”
“It’s the thing that makes the most sense. She would know that I’ve been digging into her background again.”
“All right let’s be prepared for whatever eventuality comes about. Find out all you can about the Senator, and then get eyes on his other daughter. If she made threats, I want her brought in if she hasn’t already hightailed it back to Atlanta and her Daddy.”
“On it.” As soon as I acknowledged Sweet’s order, he took off and I got busy organizing some of the prospects to tail Aubrey.
Chapter 16
“This is not happening again, and not right now!”
Yes, I was yelling at my computer. No, the computer couldn’t help what it was showing me. Someone was trying to hack into the information about my family again, via my father’s ignorant ass lawyer who had everything readily available and stored on a mainframe that was accessible via the internet. I told the idiot that he was setting all of his clients up for failure by doing so. The stodgy bastard would never listen though.
My fingers flew over the keys as I attempted to shut down yet another hack. This one wasn’t all brute force and choppy like before. Instead, there was a certain amount of finesse to the effort which allowed them to wiggle around me shutting them down. Unfortunately, they were in long enough to have no doubt grabbed some information. I just had to hope that the information they garnered wasn’t anything that led back to me. I sighed before hitting the final keystrokes that would shut their system down for a bit. Considering how good the person was, I had no doubt that the nosy asshole would be up and running again in no time. Still, I could at least sit back for a moment and catch my breath, happy that I’d taken out one of their machines.
I grabbed a coffee and went right back to it, trying to back trace the source to the origin. Unfortunately, the signal was rerouted all over the damn world. It wasn’t impossible to trace, but it would take some time. I was just setting up some booby traps in case whoever it was tried again when Paul came barging into my office. “I think we have a solid lead on some girls who were taken. One of them was the underage girl whose photo you checked into yesterday.
I nodded my head and stood to go to the meeting room that we lovingly called the war room during times like these. Paul, Dane, and a few of their most trusted men joined Tash and me as we looked at the intel and started planning.
“I would like to propose that only the men from Redemption Inc. go in.”
“What the fuck?” Tash asked, looking pissed to be left out.
“These guys want more women. Some would pay big bucks to get a hold of any of you, especially knowing that you’ve taken down their operation before. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were expecting you to show up, trying to save the day like MiMi attempted. Let’s give them a run for their money and change tactics for a bit. If it’s a setup, like it was with MiMi, all the better than none of you are there. If not, and there’s anyone left in their organization when we’re done, they’ll know that you guys aren’t above thinking outside of the box.”
“Dane, I can’t even argue with any of that. What do you need from us?”
“Equipment and the ability to pull in a couple guys Paul and I worked with before.” He noticed me hedging immediately, because we had no way of knowing who all was involved in the ring. “Mongo and Fritz can be trusted, and they both have female family members who have been mistreated by men. They both did something about the men who targeted their family.” While he was being cryptic to protect their privacy, I got the point. They weren’t afraid to operate in the gray area where the law couldn’t do enough to bring justice to people.
“They’re also former spec ops.” I turned to Paul as he added that last bit.
“You guys both worked with them before?”
“We did,” Dane answered for them as Paul gave a crisp chin tip in response.
“Do it. Whatever you need, grab out of the equipment locker. Hook them up with what they need to and recruit them to work for us permanently if all goes to plan.” I offered up a wink before moving out of the room.
“Keep us updated,” Tash added.
