Her breath caught and before I could allow my own fucking slip to ruin anything, I pumped into her harder. The faster pace took her breath away for a completely different reason as we both got lost in one another’s bodies for the first time in far too long.

Chapter 18

My phone buzzed on the nightstand beside the bed. I reached for it quickly, before it had the chance to wake Quickshot up. We’d fucked, sucked, and then made love all in the space of a few hours and the man kept his promise. He made me feel everything while forgetting my troubles all at once. If I could stay wrapped up in him forever I would. Down that path lie madness though.

“Hey,” I whispered into the line after picking up the call.

“Um, okay,” Tash whispered back while laughing. “Our security crew is supposed to call in with their first update in about twenty minutes. Figured I’d remind you so that you can be here to hear what they have to say in person.”

“On my way,” I told her as I hung up my cell and quickly climbed out of the bed. Quickshot was facing the other wall, his back to me, which made it possible for me to make a quick and easy getaway without him realizing. Not that I didn’t mind saying goodbye, but it would just delay my arrival at Redemption Inc.

Once I was dressed again, I managed the walk of shame out of Quickshot’s clubhouse as several of the guys attempted to make me feel uncomfortable about doing it. I simply flipped them off and walked out to find my motorcycle right where I’d left it. I hopped on, pulled my hair back in a messy bun low at the nape of my neck, and then slipped my helmet on before taking off and making my way back to the S.H.E. Compound.

“Have they called in yet?” The words were out of my mouth as soon as I threw the door open to the operation control center. Both Paul and Tash glanced up at me before going back to the monitor they were keeping an eye on.

“Any minute now.” Tash was the one to respond while Paul spoke into a headset he had on. Once he got the response that he was looking for he flicked a switch on the control panel and Dane’s voice came through loud and clear.

“Target located. On her six.”

“Where did you pick her up?”

“Got a hit from facial rec, she was coming out of a hotel downtown. On her way out of town now. Keeping our distance so she doesn’t notice us.”

“Any signs of distress?” Paul asked.

“Nah. She’s cool as a cucumber. Makes me nervous that she’s a willing part of this bullshit. I think it was a good call that this might be a setup to get some of the girls from S.H.E.”

“Damn,” Tash huffed out.

“Figures.” I turned away as my phone beeped, expecting it to be Quickshot wanting to know where I was, but I was shocked to see a number calling me that shouldn’t have been.

“Hello?”

“Hello. Is this Sarah?” A man asked.

“How did you get this number?”

“Your mother had an envelope that you sent her some time ago. She explained that I was never to use it unless there was an emergency.” That sent my hackles up.

“What happened?” Both Tash and Paul turned to pay attention to what was going on with me since Dane had ended his update and gone radio silent again.

“Your mother was taken.”

“What do you mean, my mother was taken?”

“She’s missing. Her things are all here. There’s no way she took off without all of it. Her purse, everything, it’s all here still.”

“When was the last time you saw her?”

I got all the information I could from my mother’s boyfriend and then I turned to Paul and Tash. “Can you manage without Paul?”

Tash nodded. “Go. Keep me updated though. We have a lot of fires burning right now, and I don’t like it one bit.”

“Me either,” I agreed. “This is beyond coincidence. We suspect the ring of allowing us to figure out where one of the missing women is in order to spring a trap for our girls and now my mother has gone missing? It can’t be unrelated.”

Tash nodded. “Be safe out there.”
