“Holy Shit!” Quickshot snatched the picture up, then started dialing his cell phone. He moved to the corner of the room and started barking orders to get someone on Paul and MiMi, that they needed a security detail immediately until someone heard from either me or him. Then he hung up and joined me once more.
Chapter 20
As soon as I hung up with Sweet, I started texting Paul so that he would know and be able to get back to us with answers to questions we had about his uncle. Paul managed to get back to me quickly, and it turned out to be true. The man was indeed their uncle, on their mom’s side. They hadn’t seen him in years since Paul joined the military.
I watched as Keys took charge of everything, making the lawyer’s office her own workspace after she hung up on her dad. She held in there, keeping him on the line long enough to find out where his cell phone was pinging from and then she hung up. It wasn’t guaranteed that he would remain at that location, or that her mother was actually there since we hadn’t heard her in the background, but she had hope that he was too far gone to make rational decisions.
“I need Aubrey’s phone number,” Keys said to me in a frosty as fuck tone, sending chills running straight up my spine. The hollow, sinking feeling in my stomach grew worse every time Keys averted her eyes. We had been making headway, putting things back together between us slowly. Now, I wasn’t so sure it would ever be possible, and that too was on me for not telling her as soon as I found out that her sister was lurking around the small town that we both called home.
I rattled off the numbers to her without hesitation, despite the way my gut clenched as my fingers hovered over the contact information in my cell. Then, I stood by damn near helplessly as Keys rolled her eyes and took a different route. She snatched my cell from my hand and hit dial right before also engaging speakerphone so that I could hear both sides of the conversation.
“You humiliated me. If you think you’re ever getting a chance of getting me in bed, you lost your mind,” was how Aubrey answered the phone. I cringed as Keys smirked at me. At least, if she had been paying attention, she might be able to tell that I’d never actually slept with her sister. She might not believe me if I told her, but she could believe that.
“That’s quite alright. I don’t want in your bed,” Keys told her in a smooth-as-fuck voice that actually made me hard. Yeah, bad timing for it and all. It was official, there was something fucking wrong with me.
“Who is this?” Aubrey demanded.
“Take a wild guess.”
Aubrey huffed and didn’t bother tipping her hand. Why would she? The girl didn’t think I knew her connection to her sister. “Obviously, some club skank who thinks they’re doing something with Quickshot’s phone when he’s not looking.”
“Wrong.” Keys turned her eyes up to meet mine then and I could see the conflicting emotions broiling there. “I just found out that my sister has been hanging around but staying out of sight and doing so under an assumed name all this time.”
“Sarah?” Aubrey asked, and there was something akin to awe in her voice before she shut it down and turned bitch mode back on. “So, you finally want to acknowledge that you have siblings?”
“I wasn’t allowed to acknowledge having siblings before,” Keys informed her.
“Yeah, okay.”
“There are legal documents to that affect. You can feel free to look at them once you get your ass to Atlanta and the legal offices our father uses.”
“Like I’m going to fall for that.” Aubrey laughed, as if she was in on some silent joke. Too bad for her, she was wrong and probably about to learn what a real piece of shit her father actually was.
Keys hit the Facetime button on my phone and Aubrey answered. She turned the camera so that her sister could see their father’s lawyer standing in front of us. “What in the hell is going on?” Aubrey demanded after getting proof.
“Our father has kidnapped my mom. He’s done far worse shit too. You need to get your ass here as quickly as possible.”
“Why in the hell would I care about your whore of a mother?”
“Our father was with my mother long before he knew who yours was. He stayed with her throughout every year of your parents’ marriage, right up until I forced him to stay away from her when I was fifteen and old enough to do something about it. He had my mother so brainwashed she thought he loved her that whole time and she saw your mom as the other woman – no matter how official their marriage made her.”
“What? They were together that whole time?”
“Yeah.”
“He was never away from us that long, unless he had cameras pointed at him. How the hell was he playing daddy to you and me at the same time?”
“He was never playing daddy to me,” Keys snapped.
“But you just said…” Aubrey’s voice trailed off.
“I said he was with my mother that whole time. He would come see her, not me. I never had a father. You did. Just get your ass here.”
“Again, this is about your mother, not mine. Why should I?”
“Because I’m about to rattle the hornet’s nest, and that makes both of us a target for whoever he’s involved with too.”
“What the hell do you mean whoever he’s involved with?”
