“I want to take you somewhere special. Are you up for a trip to Atlanta?”

She shook her head vehemently. “No. If you have a desperate need to take me somewhere with tons of people, then we should head to Chattanooga or Asheville. I don’t go to Atlanta. Ever.”

Interesting. That must have been where her family was. I wouldn’t push today, but hopefully soon, I’d get her to tell me more about them. Not for Sweet, and his need to know exactly what a threat she might pose to Angel Girl, but for me. For Keys. She needed to know that the ghosts of her past couldn’t haunt her anymore, and I needed the reassurance that it was true too. Plus, if I ever had the chance to teach her father a lesson, I’d take it in an instant. Keys deserved closure, but that man deserved to have his ass kicked repeatedly.

Chapter 5

It had been three weeks since Quickshot and I decided to start seeing one another. While we mostly kept it a secret, there was also the issue that we lived in a ridiculously small town where secrets weren’t able to be hidden as easily. People speculated, maybe even knew for sure that there was something between us, but neither of us ever confirmed it. Thinking about it gave me a little anxiety though, because we were coming up on the month mark, where Quickshot and I were supposed to come clean and tell everyone about our relationship.

“Your cell is ringing.” My attention immediately shot up to Angel girl because I hadn’t heard her come in. “You probably shouldn’t keep my brother waiting, he’s impatient.” She winked at me and walked away.

Damn. I guess we really were doing a shitty job of keeping our relationship hidden.

My phone stopped ringing by the time I managed to get it out of my pocket, but Angel Girl had been correct. Quick was impatient when he wanted something. The damn thing was ringing again before I could decide whether to call him back or wait. “Hello.”

“Hey sexy lady, are you busy?”

“Not really.”

“So, you were just going to ignore my call?” His tone was playful, so I didn’t take offense or get defensive like I normally would have if someone had called me out for not answering.

“Nah, these jeans are really tight. Honestly, I’m not sure how I managed to get my phone in the pocket but getting it back out was a whole ordeal.” I knew it would be a tease to tell him that since the man enjoyed shamelessly staring at my ass all the time.

“You know my imagination is in overdrive now.”

“I’m sure it is, but you never got around to telling me what you were calling for.”

“Oh, right. What do you have planned later tonight?”

“I’m not sure. I have some club shit to do for a bit, but I’ll probably be free by seven.”

“Seven.” I could almost hear him calculating something on the other end of the line before he spoke again. “Okay. Seven is doable. Should I come by to pick you up, or would you like to meet me so you can ride too?”

“How about you come pick me up?”

“Are you sure?” He sounded surprised. Granted, he had every right to be since we were still supposed to be a secret and I had never allowed him to pick me up from my clubhouse before.

“I’m positive. We have to step out of the closet at some point, right?” His sharp intake of breath and the ensuing silence were the only reasons I knew he was shocked that it had been me to take that first step. “We’ll make an announcement next weekend to both of our clubs. Until then, we’re still a secret. Whoever sees us can put together whatever theories they have.”

“I’m not about to argue with you. I’ll just see you at seven. Keys?”

“Yeah?”

“Be prepared, because when I see you, there’s no way I’ll be able to keep my hands off.”

“Good to know. Maybe I should wear a skirt to make it easier on you.”

“A man could hope, but I won’t hold my breath. Besides, honey, that ass of yours makes any pair of jeans look spectacular. I’m not going to argue with the view if you’re more comfortable.”

“Some days, I wonder what kind of magic was cast on you to make you say the absolute perfect things.”

He laughed as I hung up the phone. Quickshot was still a man and there was no way I was giving him the opportunity to ruin a good moment. I chuckled to myself as I thought that.

“What - or should I say who - has put that smile on your face?” JoJo asked as she moved to where I was sitting.

“Wouldn’t you like to know?”

JoJo chortled as she slapped me on the shoulder. “Oh Keys, I already know, because I’m not blind or an idiot. I’m just waiting on you to admit what’s going on.”
