“Okay, that’s a perfect example. I should be worried. Suspicious even. But I don’t feel any of that. All I feel is horny. All the time. That’s it.”

“Horny?” I echoed.

“Aroused.”

I began to feel the concern she said she could not.

“Ah,” Mtinash said with a growing smile. “If you seek pleasure, that is something I can provide. Oaiu would be happy to attest to that.”

“No, I don’t wish for pleasure. I wish for an answer. Why do you think I need another scent-marking before contacting the Oebri when I’m not feeling anything?”

“As you’ve discovered, the scent-marking helps keep a female calm. It’s meant to help make the time spent while knotted with one of my kind less stressful. We learned generations ago that it can also serve as protection against the Oebri influence.”

“Influence?” Vya asked.

“Yes. Their ability to control a female’s mind,” I said.

“If you do not wish to be a sex slave, I suggest you stay away from the Oebri unless you are bonded or well scent-marked by one of our kind,” Mtinash added.

Her scent changed subtly. Under the mouthwatering arousal, I smelled fear.

Vya looked up at me, and I could see she was considering our words seriously.

“It’s just a video call, right? Can they really influence me like that?”

“A comm is much safer than in person,” I said.

“Okay. Then, I think I’m fine for now as far as scent-markings go and would like to try calling them.”

Mtinash went over to the console and started typing.

“Can you stand in the lit circle, my beauty?” he asked, glancing back at Vya.

She went to the circle that appeared on the floor and waited.

“Are you ready?” Mtinash asked.

“I am.”

The image of an Oebri male appeared before Vya, and she stumbled back a step in surprise. I caught her arm and hurried to steady her as the male’s expression shifted from surprise to desire.

“Treasured female, how can I assist you?” he asked.

Vya stared at him as her hand gripped mine and held tight. I could scent a hint of distress under her growing desire.

“My name is Vya Chu. I was taken from Earth and made to bathe—” She glanced at me. “What are they called again?”

“Wsoau,” I said.

She looked back at the male.

“I was taken and forced to bathe Wsoau. If I didn’t, they shocked me.”

“Who is with you, precious female?” the Oebri asked.

“The man who saved me from them. I was blind and couldn’t see when he found me. I’d been shocked too many times. The other women with me were already dead.”

The rage I’d felt when I’d found Vya resurfaced.
