When I was finished, I wiped my mouth on the cloth he handed me and stared at him.
“There’s a possibility I could be pregnant.”
“Are you serious?” I noted a hint of excitement in his voice.
“Maybe.” I pointed at him. “My mom put the idea in my head yesterday, and now I can’t stop thinking about it.”
“There’s only one way to find out,” he said.
“I’ll take a test as soon as we get to the hospital.” I wrapped my arms around him.
“Don’t do it without me.”
“I won’t.” I broke our embrace and kissed his lips.
Later that day, when I had some free time, I grabbed a urine cup, went to the lab, and grabbed a pregnancy test. Stepping onto the peds floor, I looked around for Graham.
“Misty, have you seen Dr. Malone?”
“He’s around here somewhere. Do you want me to page him?”
“No. That’s okay.” I smiled.
When I pushed the button to the elevator, the doors opened, and Graham stood there, holding a cup of coffee.
“Hi, beautiful.” He smiled.
“I’ve got the goods. Shall we go down to my office?”
“Definitely.”
I stepped onto the elevator, and Graham hooked his arm around me. “Are you feeling okay?”
“Yeah. Better than I was earlier.”
We stepped into my office, and Graham and I went into the bathroom and shut the door. After peeing in the cup, Graham stuck the test stick into the urine, and we watched as a line appeared.
“I guess you aren’t sick.” Graham grinned.
“I can’t believe I’m pregnant.” I placed my hands over my mouth.
“Believe it, babe. We’re having a baby.” His lips met mine.
CHAPTER 34
Ella
There were only a few days until Christmas, and I would officially be twelve weeks pregnant. It was hard to keep it from the family, especially from my dad. Graham, Lily, my mom, and Georgia were the only people who knew. I took the ultrasound picture, framed it, and placed it underneath the pink onesies that read: Hello, Grandpa. See you in June. After wrapping the box, I placed it under the tree. I couldn’t wait for my dad to open it and see the look on his face. I hadn’t been drinking, which my father questioned. I used the excuse that we were short doctors at the hospital, and I was on call a lot.
I placed my hand on my belly as I stood before our beautifully decorated Christmas tree.
“How are my girls.” Graham walked over, wrapped his arms around me from behind, and placed his hands on mine.
“We’re good.” I smiled.
We found out we were having a girl after the results of my NIPT came back. Graham and I told Georgia we wanted to know and we’d do the gender reveal ourselves at Christmas.
“The wait is almost over, babe. Then we can tell the family about our little angel.”
