Then Zach leaned down and kissed her. Not a friendly kiss.More like a “I’m going to inhale you like I’ve never breathed before” kiss. Itwent on for a while. He wondered if they were going to go at it right here. Finally, the captain came up for air.
Zach smoothed back her hair, looking at her like he’d neverseen a woman before. “I’ll meet you downstairs. I’ve got to grab my bag.”
She nodded and walked away. She probably hadn’t even noticedTris was there.
“I thought you were talking to her. You two played, andmaybe something more,” Tris said, trying not to make it an accusation. “Youtold me you didn’t sleep with her.”
Zach’s head shook as he tossed the beer into the trash. “No.I said we didn’t sign a contract. And that should tell you something. I don’tlose my head often. I’m going to have some waffles and probably stay up way toolate, but hey, I can sleep when I’m dead. See you soon, brother.”
Zach practically jogged down the stairs.
“Who the hell was that? Because the Zach I know doesn’tsmile like that.” Aidan walked into the lounge from the entrance leading backto the privacy rooms on this floor.
Carys was behind him, wrapped in a robe and looking soft andsexy and sleepy. “I thought I saw him with Devi.”
Why was Aidan letting her walk? He was going to have a talkwith his partner. Tristan strode to Carys and had her in his arms in aheartbeat. “I think we’ll be seeing more of them together. Zach’s got a crush. Now I think we should get you home and into bed, and I am not sleeping on thefloor tonight. We’re going to give TJ a break and let Kala back into herbedroom.”
Carys’s head drifted to his shoulder, her whole body relaxedin his arms. “You better have coffee at your place.”
He hadn’t actually been to his place in a long time, butCooper drank coffee. “I promise.”
Aidan yawned and stretched. “It’ll be good to sleep in abed. That couch thing at the twins’ is torture. I like a big bed.”
Tristan’s was a California king. Built for all three ofthem. “And I like to please my subs.”
Aidan groaned, but he didn’t argue.
They were making progress.
Now all they had to do was survive Huisman and he could getback to his real life. To his life with them.
ChapterTwelve
Aidan carried two cups of coffee into the small airportlounge, trying to tamp down the unease growing in his gut.
This was happening. They were getting on the plane to flyinto Montreal, and by this time tomorrow, he would be meeting the possibly evilDr. Huisman. They would fly in and then split up, with he and Carys going tothe summit with Kala and Tristan, and the rest setting up in a place close toHuisman’s.
He’d spent days learning how to use the communicationssystems and listening to lectures on how to protect himself and Carys. Itinvolved proving he could defend them both, and he would be smart enough toknow flight was preferable to fight in this case.
The number of lectures he’d gotten from the uncles on how hecould be killed shocked him. So, so many ways he could die. And he was adoctor. He’d thought he’d known a lot. The uncles had proved him wrong.
But the nights had been another story…
The nights had given him hope they could get back on track, back to the lives they’d promised themselves when they were kids.
They’d spent hours in bed, hours where they’d found theirrhythm again.
“Do you have everything? You have the Glock? You rememberhow to use the Glock?”
Aidan fought back a groan. His da loved him. He was worriedabout him. It wasn’t annoying. It was good his father cared.
And cared. And worried. And peppered him with questions likehe was taking the SATs again.
“Da, I have the Glock. It’s the one you taught me on. I knowhow to use it but if it gets bad, I assure you I will cover Carys with my ownbody and when we get a chance, we’ll run and hide somewhere. Shouldn’t you beat work?” He’d said good-bye to them already this morning. He’d hugged his momand sister and shaken hands with Nate, who’d promised to take care of Daisy. He’d given his father a long hug and said he’d see him soon.
He hadn’t meant this soon.
It was like he was fourteen and going away on a school tripand his father was telling him to make good choices.
