He did not!I choke down the drink in my mouth, giggling. Yes, it’s one of the cheesiest, but oddly cutest, pick-up lines ever…and it’s my first of any sort, so I’ll take it.
“Sorry, gorgeous, couldn’t help myself.” Even he chuckles, taking another slow savor of his gloomy-colored beverage—short glass, no extras. “Name’s Jax, but if you want to call me Ken, I’m down.”
Locking onto his gaze, I answer, “I like Jax. It’s suiting.”
He dips his head, bringing his lips inches from mine. “Glad you think so. Now how about you tell me why you’re here all alone?”
I shrug, pulling back just enough for another taste from my glass. “Just testing the waters.”
His hand inches up my thigh. “And what’re you fishing for?”
There it is, the opening. And for the first time in my life, I’m taking it. With all the false bravado in the world, I answer, “Depends…you gonna get us a room next door, or do I need to keep my line out?”
His smile changes to a devious grin, one that’s all wicked beauty and promise, shooting a reckless wave of longing to my core. “Let’s go.” He stands and extends his hand to me, a bemused twinkle of doubt in his darkening blue eyes, sure he’s called my bluff.
No turning back now.
And I don’t.
