I nodded. “Yeah. One more reason to leave.”
She finally got in and I ran to the other side, trying to be careful not to get blood in her new car. I wiped my knuckles against my shirt. It helped marginally. I waited for the opportunity to pull out into traffic as I called Zeid.
“You with her?”
I didn’t answer.
“You have access to the feeds at the White Building still?”
I heard keys clicking over the phone.
“Last ten minutes of videos seem to be gone.”
I licked my bottom lip.
“Just checking the guard did as told.”
“Yeah. Looks like he did. But shit. What did you do?”
I smirked.
“Took care of a prick.”
THIRTY-FIVE
rylee
I openedmy mouth and shut it. Cas pulled out into traffic like he wasn’t covered in blood. Why the hell did he look this good covered in blood?
“Just say it, blossom.”
I looked at Cas. What did one say when you were trying to toss around the whole feelings thing? Shit, I’d really caught feelings. There was the idea of Cas and then there was the real thing, and him in real life?
“So, you almost killed a detective?”
He didn’t even blink.
“Yeah. He deserved it.”
I blew out a breath.
“Yeah, well, you had just ignored me and ran away hours ago, and then you almost kill a detective. He sort of had a lot to do with whether or not I would be making rent every month.”
The city passed by and then we were back on the highway.
“I didn’t ignore you, Rylee.”
I spun around on my seat.
“Yeah. You fucking did, you ass. I was on your bed and then you were running away.”
I watched his knuckles turn white on the steering wheel and noticed the way a vein popped in his neck.
“And this car? What happened to my car? How much did this car even cost?”
I didn’t want to admit just how much I liked this pretty little car. The seats were soft as butter, and the way it moved? Maybe I needed to take it for a drive.
“You can be pissed about the car, but this one will keep you safe and out of any repair shops.”
