My heart nearly beats out of my chest when I see he has the peppermint mocha syrup out. The fact that he knows my absolutely favorite coffee flavor is enough to make me want to scream about us from the rooftops.

“Good morning,” Logan says with a smile.

The deep gravel of his morning voice makes my stomach flip around. All I can think about is him lifting me onto the counter, spreading my legs enough so he can step between them to give me the best good morning kiss I’ve ever had.

My guest bedroom door opening pushes those thoughts away.

Mackenzie comes out, rubbing her eyes. “Morning.”

“Morning, Mackenzie. Did you sleep okay?” I ask her.

She nods. “Very. That bed was so so comfy.”

“I’m glad.” I smile at her.

“I’m glad you’re still here, Logan,” she says, walking over to him and taking a spot next to him in the kitchen. “I’m hoping I can make my famous French toast this morning.” She looks over at me. “Pretty please?”

“Of course. I’m excited to try it,” I tell her.

“Excellent. Do you want some Logan?” she asks him.

“Well, if it’syourfamous French toast, count me in,” He laughs. “Anything I can do to help?”

She shakes her head. “Nope, but I need supervision when the stove is on.”

“You got it.” He salutes her. “Consider it supervised.”

They both laugh as Logan shows her where everything is, moving around my kitchen like he knows it better than me.

My phone buzzes, and I see a text from Macey.

Macey

How’s Mackenzie doing? Did she sleep ok?

She slept like a rock. LOL. She actually just woke up a few minutes ago and is begging us to let her make her famous French toast.

Macey

It’s her favorite meal to make.

wait… Emiline…

Yeah?

Macey

What do you mean by ‘us’?

Oh. My. God. I spent all of last night worried that Mackenzie would be the one to tell her mom or Oliver about us, and here I am, nearly spilling the beans.

Me and the dog.

I cringe as I send that message because I clearly do not have a dog, and the last thing I want to do is start lying to my friends.

I put my phone face down because I don’t want to see what she says.

When my focus comes back to Logan and Mackenzie in the kitchen, my heart soars all over again.
