“Are you two coming to the party today?” Mackenzie asks us.
“Yup. You know James is my nephew, right?” I ask her.
She looks shocked. “You’re his aunt? That’s so cool! I don’t have any aunts,” she says, but her facial expressions don’t change. She’s still smiling as she waits for the French toast to turn golden. “One day, I will, and it will be epic.”
I chuckle with her despite feeling a piece of my heart break for her.
I know a bit about Macey’s story, but I never got a chance to really learn more with how chaotic my schedule is. I just know that Macey is the best addition to our girl gang.
“I’m actually going to go get ready. We have to head out soon,” I tell her. “Your mom and Oliver are going to meet us at the party.”
“Perfect.” She flips the French toast over. “These will be ready for you when you get back.”
I look at Logan and find him already staring at me with a smile.
The way he looks at me causes my stomach to flutter.
I know one thing for sure, today is going to be a long day of hiding my attraction for him in front of everyone.
How are you feeling after the party today?
Emiline
Better
Relieved that Macey didn’t bring anything up.
I knew everything would be okay, Em. You should really start trusting that I know what I’m talking about.
Emiline
Oh yeah?
Yup. Everyone was so wrapped up in the news about the gender reveal, no one ever gave it a second thought.
Emiline
It wasn’t them I was worried about. I was afraid Mackenzie was going to spill the beans that you were at my place.
And she was having a blast with James and the other kids.
Emiline
Yeah, I guess you’re right.
Say that again…
Emiline
Absolutely not.
Shouldn’t you be working?
I should.
But I was thinking of you.
Yeah?
