I wasnota fuckingdemon!

RAMSEY

I walkedinto Grey’s office without knocking. The door had been open anyway. Throwing myself into a comfortable chair, I slung a leg up over the arm and leaned back, relaxed.

Grey didn’t even turn from looking out the bank of windows in his office. “Ramsey.” His tone was annoyed but otherwise neutral.

“Do you have a new girl working here? Some out-of-control succubus?” I asked, curious.

The encounter with the woman in the elevator still clung to me. She’d been… intoxicating and her aspect had been blazing like a bonfire that had almost shattered my restraint.

Which wasn’t good.

I was constantly on the verge of losing control — it was just my chaotic nature — but I’d spent thousands of years ensuring I had a handle on it. I’d lived with this roiling tempest in my soul all my life and knew how to keep a lid on it.

But when I’d seen that woman…

Her look had been unique: silver hair and eyes, definitely unusual for a succubus. Sex daemons varied dramatically, but silver wasn’t a common hair color at all. She’d been new and different, and I was still having vivid visions of ways we could have pleasured each other in the confined space of that elevator.

Grey turned, one brow raised. “An out-of-control succubus? Not that I know of.” His eyes narrowed for a moment. “Though I do recall feeling something earlier, a pull. I was a little lost in thought at the time. Perhaps she was just a guest.”

“She said she’s a bartender.”

Grey’s other brow rose to join the first. “Harmonia had said she might be hiring a few new staff.” He shrugged. “Why are you so interested?”

I gave him a you-have-to-ask look. I’d already fucked most of his waitstaff.

“Ah. Of course.”

And yet, what I’d felt was more than just a desire to have her. “Also her aspect was like nothing I’ve ever felt before and it was completely unveiled. She wasn’t masking herself at all. Running around like that could be dangerous for her. For all of us.”

“True.” Grey nodded. “What did she look like?”

“Silver hair and eyes, quite memorable.”

“I’ll talk to Markus and see if there was anyone in here like that and if we hired them. If so, I’ll make sure Harmonia has a chat with her.”

I nodded.

“Now,” he asked resuming his annoyed tone. “Why are you in my office?”

I gave him my best feral grin. “I’ve got a joint mission for us.”

Grey sighed. “Oh?”

It was clear he didn’t like the idea but I didn’t blame him. We were very different. Oil and water. As the Lord of Strife, I was all about conflict and maintaining the right amount of natural chaos in the world. Whereas Grey, as the Lord of Conquest, was all rigid order and precision. We rarely saw eye to eye. Still… he hadn’t said “no” yet, so I went on.

“There’s this bank, The Premier Bank of Commerce or something like that. Anyway, I found out through one of my contacts that they’ve been funding terrorism overseas. Specifically, a small cabal of their executives is involved in weapons and drug trafficking. We could swoop in, deal with them, and then you can buy the bank while I prosecute them.”

Grey nodded. He was nearly on the hook. Luckily, I had one more bit of information that would tip him over the edge. “They also hunt large game in Africa for fun.”

“I’m in,” he growled instantly.

I flashed my teeth in a large grin. “I thought so.”

Grey hated anyone who harmed animals. One of his aspects was The Hunt, but he didn’t hunt to kill. He hunted to capture and care for, and he loved animals of all sorts.

I slid my leg off the arm of the chair and stood. “I’ll text you the details,” I said as I left. I got to the door then turned back. “And if you find out the name of that wild succubus, text me her info. I’d love to tame her.”
