Micah
Idon’t allow many things to crack through my emotions. After so many years, there isn’t a lot that can affect me. Waiting for my friends to get their shit together and be nice to my mate was annoying. The relief I felt when everyone relaxed was immense. Having my mate stuff bracelets and a watch in my pocket to please my friends was adorable, and I appreciated her efforts. Plus, I got several hugs and enjoyed Daisy’s breasts pressed against me; win, win.
Hearing another man say my mate’s name was irritating, but when he rushed toward her, complete rage flooded my body. My only thought was to keep him away from her in any way possible. My demon pushed and demanded his death. I have no problem killing him instantly. Daisy’s presence and the scent of her desire because of my actions were the only things holding me back.
I don’t like any single man speaking to her, but a man who lived in the same house with her and was a part of the hell she lived in is a whole different level of anger.
“Do you think I will let anyone get close enough to her to do that?” I snap.
“Who are you?” he asks again after I ease my grip so he can speak.
“Her mate,” I answer. “Daisy is mine, and I don’t like it when she is threatened.” He trembles. My demon loves his fear. “Where is Turner?”
“I don’t know. Please, I just want money to get out of town,” he begs pathetically. The only kind of begging I respond to is in the bedroom.
“When did you see him last?” I ask.
“Yesterday. He was rambling about Daisy, her brother, and a coin. I went back to the house to get my clothes, and he was there. The place was trashed.” He looks from me to Daisy. “He was searching for that fucking coin again,” he says.
“Don’t fucking look at her,” I hiss. “Tell me.” Daisy’s nails dig into my back.
“He barely noticed me being there. He was talking to himself.”
“Tell me what he said,” I demand. He hesitates. “Do you know what vampires can do? Or I should clarify; do you know what I can do?” He shakes his head once. “I can reach into your brain and pull out your memories. The downside for you is you probably won’t survive it. I’m very determined to keep my mate safe and kill Turner. Do you think I will let your misplaced loyalty stand in my way?”
“No,” he whispers.
I can smell the fear in his scent and the increasing desire in Daisy’s. “Tell me.”
“He repeated the word coin, coin…” he shakes his head. “He said he was going to kill him.I think the coin is a bigger deal than any of us thought. He was supposed to share the value of the coin with someone.”
“Who?” Daisy asks.
“I don’t know. I was never close to him. I tried to stay out of his way,” he says to her but keeps his eyes on mine. “He repeated her name, called her a dead bitch, and kept searching.”
“What did he say about her brother?” I ask, aware of Ryker and Bash being close and ready to step in if needed.
“He expressed his wish to put her where he put Liam,” he says softly.
Daisy steps closer. “Where?”
“I don’t know. He never told me, and he didn’t say anything yesterday.”
“Then what?” I ask.
“Then nothing. I got the fuck out of there before he turned his crazy on me. I haven’t been back. I slept on the street last night,” he says.
“I think he’s telling the truth,” Quinn says as he steps through the door. When he got a call and left the room, I didn’t think it was anything to do with Daisy.
“Why?” I look at him.
“Kade called,” he says. Kade is a shifter who works for him. “I asked him to swing by the pack house periodically. Turner burned it to the ground.”
“What?” Daisy gasps.
“How does he know he did it?”
“They said it was intentionally set,” Quinn says.
