“No body?” I ask.
“No. They didn’t find anyone. Kade caught Turner’s scent. It leads away from the house.” Quinn crosses his arms. “He lost the trail. The scent dissipated, so he was too far gone before Kade and Cash got there.” Cash is Kade's brother; they work together.
“Fuck.” I turn back to Austin. “Is there anything else you forgot?” I ask.
“I swear, that was it. I don’t want to protect him. I don’t give a shit what happens to him.” He starts shaking. “Please, let me go. I will leave town.” I narrow my eyes.
“Daisy, what do you think?” I ask. I believe him. I could still kill him.
“I don’t think he knows anything else,” she says. “He didn’t participate in any of my abuse. He didn’t stop them, but I understand his fear of doing so.”
“I’m sorry,” Austin says. “I didn’t know how to stop them. I was just trying to survive.”
“We all were,” Daisy says softly.
“Can’t you mind-fuck him?” River asks. I haven’t paid any attention to the rest of them in the room.
“What?” Austin asks, his skin turning white.
“Probably,” I say. “His mind is weak. Daisy?”
“Try,” she says.
Austin trembles, causing more plaster to fall from the wall. “What are you going to do?”
“Austin, stop moving,” I command, and I smile when he does. I stare into his eyes, using my influence. He is easily affected by my power. “Is there anything Turner said that you didn’t tell us?”
“No. I told you everything.” He frowns, trying to fight my power. “He wants to kill her. He’s determined to find her.”
“You will forget Turner. If you see him, you won’t know who he is. You know nothing about Daisy, the coin, or the pack house. You never saw her tonight. This never happened. When I release you, leave. Don’t ever come back,” I instruct. Shifters’ minds are so much more complex than humans'. Austin’s is closer to humans, but my influence may wear off years from now.
“Never come back,” he repeats. If I looked at his memories, he would die instantly. He has no will to fend me off.
“Go.” I break the connection and drop my hand. He slides down the wall, and his legs buckle.
He scrambles up and looks around the room. “Who are you?”
“No one. Leave.” I step back. He blinks a few times and runs out of the door. Quinn moves out of the way as he passes.
“It’s so not fair,” River pouts. “Vampires get all the cool gifts.”I ignore the wolf. “Ryker, can I use your office?” I ask him as I grab Daisy’s hand.
“Yes.” He narrows his eyes. “Why?”
“I need to speak to my mate,” I move to the door. I’ve been to his office; it’s just down the hall. “I would advise everyone to dim their hearing,” I say.
“Shit, Micah,” Ryker growls.
“Deal with it,” I say, rounding the corner and pulling my mate down the hallway.
I open the office door, pull her inside, slam it, and then lock it. I push her against the wall, my hand cupping her jaw, my fingers spread over her cheeks. The action only enhances her sweet-smelling scent.
“Put your hand on my cock,” I command. Once she’s cupping me, I say, “It took all my concentration to ignore your scent. You got turned on?”
“Yes,” she grins, squeezing.
“Undo my pants,” I rasp. I lean close as she unbuttons them, nipping at her chin, my finger resting on the corner of her mouth. I relish her speeding heart and the aroma of her need. “You weren’t scared of me at all,” I state, running my tongue over her lips.
“Not…” She unzips. “At…” Her hand pulls out my cock. “All.” She strokes.
