“I need to get you a drink,” I explain, pulling down the front of her dress. I put my dick away while I walk to the fridge beside Ryker’s desk. I’m sure he’s pissed. He doesn’t like anyone in his office having sex besides him. I remember a story he told me about his employee fucking a woman in here. He caught them. The woman was more entranced by Ryker than the man she had been fucking minutes before.
“Shit,” Daisy says, and I look back.
“What’s wrong?” I hope she’s not embarrassed. Our friends knew exactly what we were doing.
“You ruined my underwear,” she pouts. I shake my head and grab a bottle of water.
“You are better off not wearing any,” I say, watching her inspect the lace.
“Micah,” she whines. “I really liked this pair.”
“I’ll replace them,” I say, unconcerned as I sit beside her. “Drink.” Holding the bottle to her mouth, she obeys. She allows me to hold the bottle. When we are both satisfied, I pull her against my side.
She tucks her face in the crook of my neck and pats her chest. “I’m surprised nothing fell out of my bra,” she mumbles. “I was picturing jewelry scattered at our feet by the time we were done.”
I laugh. I laugh harder than I ever have.
Fuck. I love this woman.
It will be their death if anyone tries to take her from me.
Chapter Seventeen
Daisy
What a beautiful sound. I tilt my head to watch. He’s expressed humor, but never like this. The experience we just had makes me feel closer to him. I love how he treats me in every way. Everything about him turns me on to the point I want to lock ourselves away from the world. I like his friends, but I could just have him and be gloriously happy.
His laugh winds down, and he glides his fingers over my cheek. “My love is funny.”
My heart contracts. I want his love. “If you have to replace things every time we are with your friends, you’ll go broke.”
“Not likely. I’ve had plenty of years to make money.”
I never thought about it. “I can’t imagine.” He shrugs. “Have you met a coyote shifter vampire?” I ask.
“No. It’s been years, but I have seen a lion mate with a vampire. Also a vampire and a wolf.”
“What were they like?” We have barely talked about what my future will be once I’m turned.
“Original. Powerful.”
“They still had their animal, though?” I want that fact to be clear. I would be distraught if, for some reason, my animal left.
“Of course. She is part of you. She can’t die without you dying, too, and I would never let that happen.” He pulls my legs over his lap.
“Tell me more,” I encourage.
“When a human is changed into a vampire, they usually gain some kind of power along with the demon inside them. The lion I met had two sets of teeth. When she was turned, her vampire teeth laid over the top of the set she was born with. She craved blood, but she didn’t need a lot of it to survive. Vampires can eat food, but we don’t have to. We have to ingest blood regularly. The older the vampire, the less frequently they have to drink. The lion hybrid was more like an older vampire; she could drink minimal amounts.
“Of course, she craved her mate's blood and drank purely to satisfy them both. She had all the normal powers of a vampire: speed, mind control, enhanced senses, and the ability to blur from one location to another. This particular lion got the gift of sight. She discovered she could see into the future.”
“Is that normal? To gain extra powers?” I ask. I don’t know how to feel about the possibility.
“What about this life is normal? The gifts we are given are as random as finding the one person meant to be your mate. We can’t plan for it.”
“That’s true,” I mutter. “What about the wolf?”
“He was different. His eyes turned red, and he could use his vampire influence while he was in his wolf form. He needed more blood from his mate and loved everything about drinking it.”
