“No.” I can’t get sucked into a false sense of security, but for some reason, the man he works for wants me alive. Turner won’t take the chance by killing me. He’s had years to do it, but something besides his sister has stopped him. This mysterious man. He’s the one I need to talk to. He has the answers I want. I hope Micah isn’t close enough to hear our conversation.

“Are you going to come with me?” he asks.

“What’s your boss's name?” Turner closes his eyes.

“Carter,” he sighs. The name Henry mentioned.

“How did you meet him? Is he a shifter?”

“Make a choice,” he demands, and the men at the door move forward.

“When did I have one?” I ask, forcing my body to remain still. “Where’s the car?”

“Out back.”

Great. I turn and walk slowly, leading the way through the store. My shoulders itch for a different reason. The assholes at my back can’t wait to put a knife between them. I’m willingly walking to my death. Turner knew I would come. He was never going to tell me everything.

I expect Micah to be standing outside, but the only thing waiting is a vehicle.

“Stay here,” Turner instructs his men. “If she does have help, take care of them.” They nod and stay in the doorway.

I get into the passenger seat.

Say goodbye to your friends, asshole.

Chapter Twenty-One

Micah

“How are you so fucking calm?” Ryker asks as he paces in front of my chair, and I don’t bother to open my eyes. “I was always so freaked out by how calm you were in every situation,” he continues. “My mate ran off with a plan. A total shit plan. At least she took River with her. Do not ever tell either of them I said that.”

“I won’t.” Ryker, Quinn, Heath, Bash, and Saphira haven’t left my apartment. All of them are watching me as I lounge in the living room. My hand is gripping a drink perched on my thigh.

“I think he’s lost it,” Quinn mumbles.

“He’s going to lose something if we don’t leave the fucking apartment,” Heath says.

“He’s trusting his mate,” Bash says.

“Daisy is a badass. She can handle herself,” Saphira says. “Do you men always think you have to ride to the rescue?”

“Fuck,” Ryker says. “Of course not. My mate is a warrior, but even warriors need backup.”

“When Micah says it’s time, we go,” Saphira says.

“Everyone else is waiting for him to say anything,” Ryker says.

“We aren’t going to need the rest of your crew,” Heath says.

“I still don’t like you,” Ryker points out. “I don’t like working with a shifter when I don’t know what the fuck their animal is. I’ve been around for a while, and I’ve never smelled someone like you. I don’t trust it.”

“Would you like me to show you, vampire?” Heath says silkily and taps his cane.

“Yes,” Ryker replies.

“I don’t think you do,” Heath disagrees.

“Why don’t you both just compare your dicks and be done with it,” Saphira snaps.
