I ran my nose over the apple of her cheek, following the curves of her face up and then down to the tip of her earlobe before I replaced it with my lips, all the while Ibreathed in her sweet citrusy scent. Into the crook of her neck, I whispered, “If you think I’m bad, what do you think Everest will do when he finds us like this?”
It wasn’t in my nature to embrace being the lesser of two evils, but I could make an exception, just this once.
Her chest rose rapidly, pushing her plump breasts into me.
Fucking sweater.
I let my lips hover on top of her carotid artery, the rapid fluttering of her pulse like a dance against me. “I owe you a punishment.”
Her heart rate did a pirouette.
“ . . . could deliver it here, where anyone could—”
She thrashed, shaking her head furiously.
“Someplace private, then?” My hand was still firmly pressed against her mouth.
We didn’t need words to communicate.
Luz inhaled sharply, going still again.
“Yes or no?”
Even at eye level, she still managed to somehow make me feel like she was looking up at me, judging me, weighing me.
Knowledge was my obsession, and I would have given anything to know what was running through her mind.
She tipped her head slowly up and down.
The wall creaked behind her as I shifted my weight, thrusting into her, nearly feral at this point. “I’m going to remove my hand, but if you scream, I’ll leave you to wolves.”
Another nod.
Freeing my hand from her hair first before removing the other from her mouth, I drew a ragged breath and stepped back. She sagged against the wall, struggling to remain upright with the loss of my support.
Still, those amber eyes betrayed nothing.
“Last chance to change your mind, petite diablesse.”
Chapter ten
Luz
“Last chance to change your mind, petite diablesse.” His challenge seemed to echo loudly down the hall, even as he said it in his usual low rasp.
Alister fisted his hands as he drew in another ferine breath.
My body reacted against my will as pressure radiated through me from the inside out. Blood rushed between my legs and tears welled in my eyes as I ached for relief.
I could feel the ghost of his hand still on my lips. It should have been disturbing.
I took a step forward.
Alister stilled completely, his eyes frozen over like an icy sea—deadly cold belying the raging depths of turmoil below.
I took another step forward.
He swallowed tightly, his Adam’s apple bobbing in place.
