Our beach house was only a stone's throw from Josh's, and it was impossible for me not to run into him at some point. What do I do?
I stood frozen in my shower for a minute when I turned on the faucet and the sound of the water splashing out reminded me of when he carried me into the shower and bent me over there.
My skin flushed, the spot between my thighs grew wet and I sighed, turned off the faucet and got out of the shower.
I was restless, unable to get him out of my mind or allow myself think of him either. When I woke up this morning in his arms, I had been tempted to stay, but I couldn’t.
All hell would break loose if Iris ever found us together. I wasn’t ready for that drama, and then my father, what would he say? Josh was more than twice my age and it was crazy thinking about him this way.
I can’t let this happen.
I returned to the shower with a determination to mask away the feel of his skin against mine for the second time that day, but after spending minutes in there, when I stepped out, I stared at my disarranged bed and remembered lying on a similar one his guest room, my legs spread apart, and my neck arched as I moaned in pleasure while he thrust deep inside me and emptied his seed.
I didn’t realize I was touching my lip while staring at the bed, but when I regained my senses, I shook my head and walked over to my dresser to put on new clothes.
Josh had to leave my mind, and I was prepared to do anything to forget him.
Anything at all.

Three days passedbefore the skies on the island cleared up again. That Saturday morning, dawn broke early, and the sun filtered through the drapes on my window into my room.
I stirred awake with a sigh and opened my eyes to see Samuel staring at me with a wide smile. “We’re playing football,” he announced, then pushed my duvet off my body and got into bed with me.
“Samuel….” I called and giggled as he snuggled closer to hug me. I ruffled my brother’s hair, tickled him till he laughed and rolled around on my bed then I sat up with him and grinned. “Come join us,” he invited.
“Alright … I’ll be right there.”
“Yay…”
Samuel hurried out of my room and closed the door with a loud bang. I was still smiling when I got out of bed, took off my pajamas and put on something sporty before going out to join them on the beachfront of the house.
We played soccer for about an hour. Allison was terrible at kicking, so it was easy for my dad and I to score on her. Samuel was also learning quickly, so Allison was going to be left out of the sport soon if she didn’t brush up on her skills.
I was laughing hard till my sides hurt when we finally went into the house and started to fix breakfast. We had bacon with cheese fries and eggs and after that, Allison and I walked to the inn to check out how the manager was handling the guests and activities.
Allison stayed back at the inn because she oversaw a tour for the guests, so I went to the bakery alone to help there. It was mid-afternoon when Josh walked into the dining area.
The other lady working with me chose that moment to hurry into the kitchen, so I was left alone with him. seeing him made me tremble inside at first, and I licked my dry lips, then forced on a smile.
“Hey, what would you like?” I asked, choosing to pretend like I wasn’t feeling his heated gaze on me.
“We should talk,” he answered. He held my gaze without flinching, and I tossed the napkin I held on the counter, took off my apron, then walked around the counter.
“Fine, let’s talk,” I said in a steady voice, surprised that my jitters did not show in my body language. The salesgirl returned, so I followed Josh out of the bakery and further toward the parking space we had. He leaned down on his Chevy and crossed his arms over his shoulders. “What did you want to talk about?” I asked when he was silent for the first few seconds.
“You left,” he said. “Four days ago we….” Josh trailed off when my eyes widened. I quickly looked around to check if anyone was watching or listening to us, then I frowned when I turned back to him.
Josh looked better every time I saw him, and it was impossible to ignore the flood of warmth that spread through me. I became strangely aware of my own heartbeat when he was near. Right now, I wondered if he felt it too.
My fingers tingled with the need to touch him. The flutters in my chest could cause mild chest pains if I didn’t try to control them, and I swallowed hard to endure the onslaught of emotions coursing through me.
I blew air out of my lips, re-grouped my shaky insides, then met his gaze finally.
He took the hint, cleared his throat then dropped his voice. “We made love Bree and then you vanished without a word for days and left me wondering.”
“What was I supposed to say?” I asked him. “Thank you, it was nice. Or stick around here and hope you’ll want to do it again?”
