I was about to head to my office when I spotted Allison Dell coming out of the elevator with two other women and Bree. Allison spotted me first, then lifted her hand and waved. “Mr. Sanders,” she called, and I saw her lips curve into a grin as she hurried in my direction.

Bree stopped in her tracks, and while Allison got to me and continued talking about her appreciation for the catering contract, my eyes were pinned on Bree.

She wore light-blue jeans, a white t-shirt and sparkling white sneakers to match. I could see the full curve of her hips in the jeans, and my body instantly remembered again what it was like to have her beneath me.

Heat flooded me, Bree looked away from me and pretended to be interested in what the woman by her side was saying to her.

“I’m grateful,” Allison continued as I re-focused my attention on her.

“The pleasure is mine,” I told her with a smile. Rue’s bakery was the best in town, and I loved working with the best. She was always the first I recommended to any client who needed catering services for their event.

“You should join us for dinner tonight,” she said. “It’s my son’s birthday tomorrow so we’re doing a family dinner tonight before throwing a children’s party tomorrow. I’d love for you to be there.”

“Oh … I …”

“Come on, you can’t say no,” she cut in before I could politely refuse her.

I didn’t think Bree would want me at the dinner, she was still making a point of not looking in my direction, and I was craving her attention even though I didn’t understand why.

“I would love to,” I replied to Allison.

“Great … Tonight, eight pm,” she said. “I hope it’s not too late, there’ll be wine … Lots of it since my son is staying over at my friend’s place tonight.”

She laughed and I forced a light chuckle out before she walked past me and continued her path. Bree also walked past me without stopping. I caught a whiff of her perfume and it riled up my system.

I squeezed my eyes shut for a second, then glanced back to look at her retreating figure. Shaking my head, I turned away and walked into the elevator.

If Bree was going to pretend like our passion didn’t exist, then I was going to do the same. I didn’t need her tormenting my thoughts anyway. I had endured enough heartbreak to last me a lifetime already.

Dinnerwith the Dell’s was amazing. When they made a toast to their son, and clinked glasses, I smiled and clinked mine with Bree.

She was still avoiding my gaze, and it was getting intense for me because I kept pretending not to notice how beautiful she looked tonight.

Her blonde hair was tied into a smooth bun, and her face was bare of any makeup. Her lips were a light shade of pink that begged for my attention and God that scent also pulled me in.

It’s enough to drive any man insane.

Bree made me forget every good reason that involved me staying away.

I was sure if Phil knew I was lusting after his daughter, he would kick me out of his home, but that did nothing to dwindle the flame inside me.

I still craved Bree.

The night came to an end after we finished the elaborate barbeque turkey dinner Allison had made. I wondered how she managed to do it all. Run the inn, and the bakery while caring for this amazing family. She was still so young, and her love for Phil was admirable. I once had something like that … or at least I thought I had.

After I bade the Dell’s goodnight, Phil walked me out of his house, and we shook hands. “See you around Dell,” I said to him before releasing his hand.

Phil walked back into his house, and I was about to get in my car when I noticed a movement in the night at the window on the second floor of the house. The lights in the room up there came on, and I saw it was Bree standing by her window and staring out.

It felt like she was looking at me. Her eyes focused on my direction, and the breeze blew against her hair. Suddenly she stretched out her hands in the air and pretended like she was trying to catch something.

A smile crept up my lips as I watched her, and a chuckle rose deep inside me. I wished I could watch her for a while, but I had to drive off before anyone noticed I was watching.

When I got back home and entered my house, I went into my bedroom, took off my clothes and went straight into the shower.

The water was cold, and the tinge bit into my skin as the water splashed all over me. I was hoping it would help douse the heat inside me, but after I left the bathroom and padded to my bedroom naked it still didn’t.
