My throat tightened just from seeing him, and air seemed to leave my lungs too. What in God’s name …..
Iris mentioned he was out of town for the weekend, and I had agreed to spend time at the beach house with her because her father wasn’t home.
Why is here? I’m not ready to see him … Not now… not …
Without weighing my options properly, I spun back around so my back was to him, then I squeezed my eyes tightly shut and groaned.
Dammit.
His footsteps drew closer, my heart stopped pounding in my chest, but the slow movement was worse than the racing, so I opened my eyes again.
“Hello?” he said in the same deep throaty sound that had consumed me with heat five years ago.
Why isn’t he out of town? God, I’m not ready to see him again…. I haven’t prepared myself.Over the years, I had thought of him and had convinced myself that I was over him.
Yes, the possibility of running into him once I returned to Oahu crossed my mind, but not once did I expect the onslaught of intense heat and shivers deep inside me when he was around to remain the same.
Did I ever forget the sound of his voice? God this is awkward.
Still cringing inside, I turned to him slowly. His eyes widened with recognition, then his gaze drifted down my body and back to mine in a millisecond.
“Brianna?” he called, his tone a little bit shocked, but his eyes not wavering from mine.
“Yeah… It’s me,” I replied, then forced on a smile so that he wouldn’t notice my nervousness. “What’s it been, five years?” I asked.
“Hell yes,” he answered, then his lips curved into a smile. “You look…” he paused, dropped the box he held, then made a small hand gesture before he combed his fingers through his hair and added. “Different.”
“I’m here for Iris,” I quickly said, then smiled again. “I mean she’s home right?”
“Yes … yes, she is,” he answered after a second of silence passed between us. “I think she’s asleep, she complained of being jet lagged.”
“Oh…” I answered, suddenly tongue-tied as I met his refreshing green gaze. It reminded me of the vivid memories I had pushed down my mind for five years. Whispers of passion, heated gazes, soft breaths that mingled and intense quivers from my body.
Oops.
Heat traveled up my spine and flushed my cheeks. Josh's eyes narrowed down on mine, and his lips parted slightly. That made me suspect that his thoughts had gone down the same path mine had.
I shook my head. “I’ll go check her room,” I said and turned away from him.
“Bree?” he called, and I froze in my tracks, swallowed hard, then turned back to him. “Are you back for good this time?” he asked.
“I … I don’t know,” I answered.
“Right,” he replied, and I nodded once before turning and hurrying into his house.
I was halfway up the stairs to Iris’s room when I finally let out a deep breath. This was not how I envisioned seeing Josh Sanders again, and with what just happened, I was certain of one fact.
The memory of our one-night stand was still fresh as ever in my memory.

JOSH
Brianna Dell. Her name replayed in my mind as I watched her hurry into the house and shut the door behind her. God, she was just as perfect as she had always been, with platinum blonde hair that reached her shoulders, and skin a pale shade that never hid her flush.
Just now I had noticed the color on her cheeks, and the way she avoided my gaze only made my own blood pump faster in my veins until my body temperature rose. The first time I saw her at Phillip Dell’s wedding, she stirred something in me.
Bree had the innocence and sexiness that had captivated me from the start. I had known she was innocent from her flirting skills, but I hadn’t known she was just as young as my daughter.
