“Jovie’s dad just turned up at the compound. We got both those assholes and we’re needed back for a little show and tell.” Chewy smiles, all crazy like, waggling her eyebrows.
We rush to grab our purchases and haphazardly put on any clothes we weren’t wearing when Chewy ripped open our curtains. I should feel flustered, instead I’m on fire. I cannot wait to stand in front of those two men and watch them beg for mercy the way Jovie did when her dad hit her and threw her into that little room. I think I may also want to have a little go at making them beg myself.
We load up and speed back to the compound, walking in to find everyone waiting for us.
“Baby, you need to go comfort Jovie a little. She saw her dad turn up and I think he may have been ugly to her before Pops put a stop to it. She needs you now, then after that you can come andhelp in the shed, OK?” Wire stoops a little to hold my gaze. When I nod, he kisses me on the forehead and then taps my butt. “Go on then, babe. We’ll wait for you.”
“We’ll go get dinner started. You do what you need to, Rem,” Sunny says as she, Ana, and Nat all head toward the kitchen.
Quickly moving down the hall, I stop at the room next to Wire’s, which the MC designated as Jovie’s new room. Knocking gently on the door, I push it open. All the rooms in the MC are painted the same beige grey color, this room is no different, however it’s also had a major injection of little girl. There’s a pink glittery canopy over the twin bed, girly artwork on the walls and stuffed toys on almost every surface. I know for a fact that we didn’t buy all of this on our trip this morning, which means somehow the MC brothers have had stuff delivered. Looking around to find Jovie, my gaze freezes on Mama Debs sitting on a fluffy pink rug on the floor next to a Rug Rats pop-up tent.
My hands fly to my mouth and I remember my days spent in my little hideaway. Mama Debs reaches her hand out to mine, drawing me closer to her. Kneeling next to her, she smooths my bangs out of my eyes.
“She’s in there, all tucked up, but she’s been waiting for you. You check on her and I’ll be up there, on the comfy bed. I’ll sit with her while you unleash hell on those people in the shed.”
Mama Debs heaves herself up muttering about being too old to be on the floor, as I gently call out, “Knock, knock.”
“Come in,” a little voice answers.
I push the little flap open and crawl in next to Jovie, pulling her onto my lap.
“Hey brave girl, whatcha doing?”
“I’m hiding in here. It’s my fortress. Takoda got it for me from his momma’s house. She keeped it for him since he was little,” she says as she rests her head on my shoulder.
“When I was little, I had one like this too. It was my fortress as well and no baddies could get me in here.”
She beams up at me, bright eyed and full of life. “Are you going to make the bad men go away?”
“I am.”
“Good. You can go now. I want them away. I’ll be safe here in my fortress.” Her face brightens. “And Mama Debs is my guard. She will keep all the baddies away.”
“Damn straight, baby,” Mama Debs’ voice calls from her comfy spot on the bed.
“OK sweets, I’ll be back. After that, do you want to have a Remy Wire Jovie night and we can all watch a movie together?”
“Yes!” she yells and throws her arms around my neck, hugging tight before pulling back. “OK, you can go now.”
I try to cover my smile as I crawl out of the little tent. Standing, I look back at it and think of all the times I hid in mine, my hand coming to my chest as my heart aches for the little girl I was, knowing that the little girl behind me will have a much different life. One where she will rule the roost, making all these strong men bend to her will.
“Thanks Mama Debs, I’ll be back in no time.” Leaning down, I drop a kiss to her cheek.
“Take your time. I think I might need to make some movie snacks. If only I had someone to help me….”
A squeal sounds out behind us and we smirk at each other before I turn and make my way through the clubhouse to the shed. With every step I feel more and more wild. The rage builds until I feel like I can barely contain it. But I will. I want to see these men suffer, and they can’t do that if I go wild in there and end them too soon.
Standing before the door, I’m unsure whether to knock. The Remy that thought she could just kick the door in has reverted to the old Remy. I raise my hand and before I can bring it to thescarred wood, the door swings open and Wire stands there, so wide he almost blocks out the rest of the room.
“Coming, Retta?” He holds his hand out to me and I take it.
“Thanks, Mags.” We share a secret smile as he leads me further into the room.
Chewy and Rhodie have been busy. Snake is strapped to a St Andrew’s cross, which shocks me somewhat because I only know of those from the smutty books I’ve read.
“Is that a St Andrew’s cross?” I whisper to Wire.
Before he can answer, Tav speaks up. “Yes. Yes, it is. Somehow, this place got both sexier and grosser.” He has a disgusted look on his face as he watches Rhodie straighten his sister’s safety goggles before grabbing her ass.
