Slipping back into the bathroom, I hold the door closed with my hand while I reach under my dress and tug down my panties. Taking them off, I deposit them in my handbag and then text my fiancé to come and get me.
I can’t wait to see how Gray reacts.
Chapter Two
Indy
“There’smybeautifulfiancée.”Gray spreads his arms and I wobble into them on the pavement outside the club as an old pickup truck roars out of the parking lot.
Head tucked under his chin, I fit perfectly against his sculpted chest. I slip my fingers under the hem of his T-shirt and move them to and fro over the fine trail of hair down the center of his torso. He smells like all of my favorite things. That is to say, he smells like Gray. I inhale the warmth and spice of his body heat. “I missed you.”
He chuckles in my hair, his hand grasping and sliding along several locks. “Handsy, how much have you had to drink?”
“A couple.” I curl my fingers into his waistband, stretch my fingers inside.
“Three,” America says. “At most.”
“Do you want a lift?” The vibration of Gray’s voice against my head is comforting as he covers my hand with his to stop me from teasing him.
“No, you’re in the other direction so I’ll catch an Uber with Anna later.” America glances back at the entrance to the club. “The other girls are staying, so I’m going to stick around. It’s the last time I’ll see them all for a while.”
“I’ll drop by the house tomorrow.” I need to get as much time as I can with my bestie and cousin before she leaves. Plus there are still a few boxes of my belongings at my parents’ house that I need to move to Gray’s condo.
“See you tomorrow.” America blows me a kiss on her way back into the club.
“I parked over there.” Gray wraps his arm around my shoulders and ushers me toward the blue Tesla at the end of the parking lot.
Once we’re inside the car, I relax back into the seat as Gray pulls out of the lot and into traffic. My head is really hurting. Probably because I stopped drinking and I’m dehydrated. You’re a little early, hangover.
“Did you have a fun night?” Gray glances at me as the car hums along the road in the direction of his condo. “Get your one last hurrah?”
He chuckles at his joke, but I can’t muster up the energy to laugh with this heaviness in my gut. Is this really the last time I’ll act young and carefree and irresponsible? I snort under my breath. When have I ever been any of those things? I’ve always been the woman with the plan.
Why is that bothering me so much tonight? It’s what I’ve always wanted. What I’ve worked for.
“Are you okay, Indy?” Gray glances over at me. “You seem a little quiet. Did you not enjoy yourself?”
“No, I did.” I spread my hands out over my skirt and let the conversation drift off.
Gray and I are good like that. There are no awkward pauses. We don’t constantly need to talk to be comfortable in each other’s presence. He understands me better than anyone. Which is why I can’t tell him that I’m weirdly restless tonight. He’ll think I have cold feet. But it’s not that. I’ve been planning our wedding since I was fifteen.
Perhaps I am boring.
But would a boring person ditch her panties? And then seduce her fiancé in the front seat of his Tesla? I cross and uncross my legs, letting my dress ride up a little in the process. “Hey, Gray?”
“Yeah, Indy?” He shoots another glance my way.
I press my teeth into my bottom lip. Nerves start in my belly. “I’m not wearing any panties.”
His lips part and his pale blues grow hot in the light from the dash. “R-really?”
“Mmhmm.” I spread my legs an inch.
“But you were wearing them when you left home.” His brow draws lower while he darts glances between me and the road.
“I was.” I trail my fingers over my cleavage in what I hope is a seductive move.
He licks his lips as he drops his gaze to my lap. “What happened to them?”
