“You must look beyond. That is where your destiny lies, my son.”

“Beyond?” I would have laughed, if he weren’t so serious.

His blue eyes were piercing my own.

“Beyond all of it. Beyond your uncle. Beyond Frankfort.” His lips slowly turned into a smile as he waited for me to catch on.

“Beyond Ozias?” I squinted with confusion.

What was he talking about? He and Uncle Ozias were famous. They fought all the battles together. They both married princesses and took over kingdoms far and wide.

“Yes. You must do what he will not… You must do what is right,” Father hissed, his eyes lit up like a madman.

I wasn’t catching on. The only thing beyond Frankfort was Ramir.

My own eyes widened with realization, “You want me to take Ramir?”

His smile met his eyes, and he thumped my shoulders.

“You must do it! Think of the honor it would bring the Gods. Think of the fame...,” Father excitedly rambled.

How could I tell my hero no? How could I pass up the chance to have all that I ever wanted?

“Of course, I will do it!” I laughed.
