He comes back a little later, wearing a pair of black sweat shorts, and sits on the edge of the tub.
“Is it ready?”
He nods.
Pulling the plug, I stand before him. His eyes drop slowly over my figure. He makes me feel incredible with just that one look.
“How did I get so lucky?” he says, holding a warm towel and helping me step out.
I wrap myself in the soft towel, savoring its warmth. “Mmm, thanks,” I reply, patting my face dry. “And I could say the same thing.”
He shakes his head. “Come on, baby. Let’s eat,” he says, not answering my question. Uncertainty now swarms my stomach as I grab my clothes to put back on.
“Let me get you something to wear,” he says. As he walks away, I enjoy watching his toned back.
When he’s gone, I towel dry. I hear a drawer open and close, then his heavy steps make their way back to me.
He returns with one of his tops. I can’t deny I’ve thought about wearing a man's shirt many times, but this is the first time I've ever had a man give me his shirt to wear.
I slip it on, and it feels heavenly. Soft and soaked in his delicious scent.
A grumble leaves his chest. “I love that on you.”
I look at him with an easy smile as the top sits on my knees. “It only works because you're taller than me.”
“You're perfect for me,” he says in a whisper, but I catch it.
For a guy who hasn't been with a woman in years, he sure knows exactly what to say and do.
The way he worked my body tonight was incredibly skilled. It's also nice knowing that I am not broken after not being able to come with Bobby.
We eat and watch TV in his bed, comfortable and at ease. When we lie down, I settle on top of his chest. The thump of his heart is like a lullaby and my lids close, but not before hearing more of his sweet words.
“My unique Shell. I'm obsessed with you.”
I stay silent, soaking in every single word that leaves his mouth. It's sexy, raspy, and everything I've ever wanted to hear. It’s sad that I've never heard them before, and I truly didn't think I deserved a life like this. Where a guy is obsessed with me. An unattainable dream. I hoped, of course. But there's something in the way that Evan says it that makes me believe him.
Bobby may have broken my heart, but Evan has pieced it back together.
I love the fact he brought back the carefree, bubbly attitude I once had. Maybe it’s because he’s the complete opposite of me. Either way, I’m mesmerized by him.
His lips brush my forehead as he lays a kiss there. “Go to sleep, baby. I’ll be right here when you wake up.”
I don’t need any more encouragement because his strong arms wrap around me?his scent is everywhere, and my body is tired, so it doesn't take long for my eyes to close. I drift into a beautiful dream this time. One where I take him home and my parents love him…and he loves them.
Chapter 21
Evan
Soft breaths fill theroom as Chelsea snuggles up beside me. Her legs are resting on top of mine, her hand draped across my waist, and her head lays between my arm and chest.
If she were awake, she’d hear the heavy beats of my heart.
I dip my head and peer down to watch her face, softly sleeping. She looks as peaceful as I feel now.
In this moment, there's no worry or distrust, just pure freedom. It’s a weightless feeling I’ve never experienced before. And I fucking love it.
This is everything I've ever wanted but never allowed myself to hope for, not since I was betrayed.
