Then why do I have such a bad feeling about something happening to Maseo?Auslin silently wondered. But he didn’t want to ruin the beauty of their mating with such a grim thought. “Has Kizoshi said anything about him?”
“He will go through some trials to test him, but his reward is to find the ultimate happiness and love.”
It simultaneously comforted and worried Auslin. He focused on the good. “He deserves it after the hell he’s been through.” Auslin kissed Kitsuki’s chest over his heart. “Thank you for protecting him.”
“I will protect you both.” Kitsuki kissed Auslin’s forehead. “I refuse to allow Nasume to do as he wishes.”
“Then everything will be okay.” Auslin still had fears, but they disappeared as his new bond with Kitsuki filled him with endless love and adoration. “This wassoworth the wait.”
“Forming a bond or making love?” Kitsuki teased.
Auslin laughed, his heart light and full of appreciation for his new bondmate. “Both.”
“I could not agree more.” Kitsuki guided Auslin to give him a sweet kiss on the lips. It melted Auslin as he surrendered to Kitsuki. “Waiting for you to be my first was well worth it.”
Auslin wasn’t sure how he had gotten so lucky, but he’d never stop being grateful to Sophina for bringing Kitsuki into his life. He offered a silent prayer to her to take care of Maseo by giving him a good fate with someone who loved him the way he deserved. Then things really would be perfect, and Auslin could quit worrying about the half-wolf shifter being out on his own, alone in a world that had shown him so much pain.
Chapter 47
Sephen
When Sephen entered Kisano’s bedroom after his bath, the dragon shifter was writing at his desk with an intense look of concentration. It fascinated Sephen to see Kisano hard at work. He sat down on the edge of the bed to continue silently observing. Watching Kisano working as Reskin was the biggest honor of all. Sephen was incredibly lucky to be allowed the privilege to watch his idol writing words he would surely come to love once they were done.
Sephen still couldn’t believe the sweet shifter he loved was the same author he had adored all his life. It almost seemed too good to be true, but Sephen had been blessed enough to have his feelings reciprocated. Somehow, Sephen now lived a life he barely dared to dream about, let alone ever believed would happen to him.
The longer Sephen watched, the more enraptured he became with seeing how Kisano worked. It fascinated him that Kisano never had to dip his pen in ink like a normal quill. Sephen wasendlessly curious about how that was possible. Watching Kisano pause from time to time as he figured out the best way to phrase his thoughts intrigued Sephen. His heart swelled with love for the dragon shifter author. Sephen was dying to know what Kisano was writing about, but he didn’t dare interrupt his work.
To see his favorite author diligently writing was an amazing experience. It filled Sephen with a need to be with Kisano that smoldered as he watched.
Sephen lost track of how much time had passed before Kisano looked up in surprise. A blush graced his cheeks. “My apologies, Sephen. I had not realized you were waiting,” Kisano apologized.
“Should I leave?” Sephen asked, even though he desperately hoped Kisano wouldn’t send him away. “I don’t want to disturb your work.”
“I would prefer for you to stay, if that is your wish.” Kisano set his quill back in its holder.
The temptation to peek was too strong. Sephen walked over to Kisano’s desk to glance at the beautiful calligraphy the shifter had effortlessly written. “What are you working on?” Sephen asked, brimming with curiosity about what his favorite author was writing.
“The start of a new book.” Kisano pulled Sephen onto his lap to sit.
“What’s it about?”
Kisano brushed Sephen’s hair from his eyes. “Love.”
Sephen perked up with interest. “Reskin has never written about love before.”
“That is because I never knew what it was until I met you.” Kisano leaned forward to give Sephen a sweet kiss.
It was almost more joy than Sephen’s heart could handle. “Are you saying I’m an inspiration for Reskin’s latest work?”
“For that, and so much more.” Kisano’s nostrils flared slightly, making Sephen realize his special kind of appreciation for Reskin had not gone unnoticed. “It seems my writing has inspired something inside you as well.”
Sephen brought Kisano’s right hand up to his lips to worship it with a lingering kiss. “Seeing you writing the words I will come to love and thinking about being touched by that same hand makes me want to be with you even more.” Sephen kissed Kisano’s hand again. “I feel like I was born to love you.”
“Sephen,” Kisano whispered in awe.
“I want to be yours.” Sephen held Kisano’s gaze while caressing his high cheekbones with his thumb. “For now and for always.”
“What are you saying?”
