A knock on his door pulled him from his thoughts. He called out for them to enter. It wasn’t a surprise when Auslin appeared. “Did Kisano leave already?”

“He did.” It was disappointing, but Sephen didn’t regret anything.

“Did you talk?”

A blush colored Sephen’s cheeks at the memory. “Yeah, we had a great talk.”

Auslin sat beside Sephen on his bed. “I’m glad it went well.”

“Better than well.” Sephen’s heart soared as he remembered how wonderful it felt to kiss Kisano.

“Based on your grin, I’m guessing you discovered Kisano reciprocates your crush?”

“I really didn’t think it was possible, especially once I learned he was Reskin. And yet…” Sephen trailed off with a delighted squeal.

“What did he say about you realizing he was Reskin?” Auslin asked.

“Can you believe he thought we would bedisappointedto find out he was Reskin?” Sephen’s voice was full of disbelief. “In what Realm would I ever be disappointed in finding out someone as amazing as him was Reskin?”

“I’m glad you two talked, then.”

Sephen couldn’t stop himself from grinning. “We did more than just talk.” Sephen’s blush deepened. “Is it always like that, or was it only because it was my first time?”

Auslin blinked in surprise. “You had sex?”

The question made Sephen laugh. “Oh, I wish!” Auslin’s eyebrows raised at his younger brother’s reaction. “No, we only kissed, but it wasamazing. It made me want things that would get me in trouble with some of the stuffier mages, though.”

The latter comment drew a chuckle from Auslin. “You know I’ve never cared much for their opinions.”

“I don’t know why I’m so surprised by my reaction. The only good thing about being a mage without magic is having access to so many books in the temple’s library.”

“I certainly won’t discourage you from being with Kisano,” Auslin told his brother. “You’re perfect for each other.”

Sephen leaned back on his hands. “When we first met, it felt like I had known Kisano my whole life. Now that I know he’s Reskin, it makes so much sense.”

“Love happens quickly for some and slowly for others,” Auslin explained. “There’s nothing wrong with the two of you finding yours for each other so soon after meeting. It’s obviously based on genuine feelings.”

“But isn’t it weird I would happily be his mate tomorrow if he asked? Not that hewould, but you know what I mean.”

“Are you seriously asking me if I think it’s weird you would eagerly agree to live an eternal life with your dream man in an infinitely expanding library?” Auslin teased. “It would be weirder if youdidn’twant that.”

Sephen laughed before turning serious. “But what if he doesn’t want me the same way?”

“I don’t think you have to worry about it.”

“Or what if he only wants me because he’s being swayed by my heat scent?” The thought pained Sephen. “He said he didn’t want me to doubt his feelings as being a result of his biological reaction to it, but I find it so hard to believe.”

Auslin smiled kindly at his brother. “Why are you doubting him?”

“Because it’s too good to be true!”

“It’s obvious Kisano’s feelings for you are very real,” Auslin said with a confidence that Sephen desperately wanted to believe. “You have the rest of your heat while you’re here to think about what you want from him.”

“I want him.” Sephen felt the urge all the way to the core of his soul. “I want him in sexy ways I’ve only read about in books.”

Thankfully, Auslin didn’t laugh at Sephen. “Kisano almost certainly feels the same way.”

The thought made a bubble of warmth rise inside Sephen. “I hope so.”
