“Go sit down,” I demand.
She narrows her eyes at me, but instead of fighting back, she walks up the stairs with an exaggerated sway in her hips. When she looks over her shoulder at me and bats her lashes, I almost fall to my knees and crawl to her. It’s the look in her eyes that gets me.
She’s happy. Her flirty smile reaches her eyes, and the earthy topaz of her irises sparkles with love. I take an extra second to memorize this look. It’s one I hope to earn every day for the rest of our lives.
Then the sexy brat bites her thick bottom lip, snapping me out of my daydream, and I all but growl as I chase after her. She’s in her seat before I can scoop her up and place her on my lap, which is probably for the best. Taking the seat next to her, I adjust my body, so that I am facing her, thankful that this theater has fancy stadium seats and the armrests and tray tables are out of the way, making it feel like we are sitting on the couch instead of an uncomfortable chair.
“What are we watching?” she asks, pretending like she didn’t just wave a red flag in my face.
“You’re a brat.”
She smirks at me. “You like it.”
I do.
“I should have asked if you wanted anything to eat before we sat down.”
“Oh, good call. I’m hungry.”
I stop her as she stands, pulling her down to sit.
“Stay. I got this. Tonight is all about you. What do you want?”
She visibly swallows, and I know she’s thinking about wanting more than just food. “A little of everything?”
With a lascivious grin, I stand. “Oh, baby Doll. I hope you’re ready for a lot more of everything.”
Chapter fifty-five
Emery
I watch as Masonfixes two plates of food for us to eat. I can’t believe he did all this for me. He’s trying to recreate our first date, and while I love it, this time it means so much more.
We mean so much more.
Even though yesterday felt like a setback and I still want to know what had him rushing out of my house so quickly, we are heading in the right direction tonight. He has more than earned my forgiveness, not only with words but with actions.
Carrying one of those cardboard food trays, he makes his way up the stairs. “Here’s your food, my lady.” He hands me the box that has a small container of popcorn, a slice of pizza, some nachos, and of course, a cupcake.
I almost melted on the spot when I opened the pastry box. One whiff of the coffee-infused frosting, and I knew they were like the ones I mentioned serving if we were screeningThe Big Lebowski.
“Thank you, kind sir.” I giggle. Freaking giggle. I’m definitely drunk on the sexy man serving me.
“Please don’t call me ‘sir’,” he grumbles.
I raise an eyebrow, waiting for him to continue.
“I don’t want to talk about it, but let’s just say I heard Jace get called ‘sir’, and now it makes my dick shrivel up.”
“Wait, that means…”
“Yup. She said it,and I heard it.”
I throw my head back and laugh. “Wow, I’m impressed. I didn’t realize Rylann was so adventurous.”
“If you only knew,” he mumbles under his breath. I know he didn’t mean for me to hear it, but the comment sparks my curiosity.
Another time.Tonight is for us.
