Treasure frowned. “Cautious about what?”
“I’m not sure exactly,” Barbara answered. Her eyes locked with Treasure’s. “I just can’t escape the feeling that you’re in danger.”
Treasure’s lungs squeezed. She swallowed, willing herself to look at this rationally. “Are you worried about the stalker?” She should’ve never told her mom about the threatening texts or emails. It wasn’t fair to make her worry and fret over something with which she had no control. “That’s in the past. I haven’t gotten any texts or emails for months. But you already knew that. I’ve told you, remember?” Was her mom’s memory slipping? Or maybe watching the interview with Alyssa McKenzie about the break-in had brought everything back.
“I know,” Barbara answered patiently. “I’m just telling you the feelings I keep having.”
A shiver ran down Treasure’s spine.
“Just promise me that you’ll be careful.”
“I will,” Treasure assured her, although she had no idea what she was supposed to be careful of.
