Page 90 of Malcolm

Malcolm withheld the scream that burned in his stomach. The woman he loved had been harmed right in front of him. It was killing him inside, inhaling deeply. He promised himself that once Eliza was healed, he’d hunt down the ones who’d done this and murder them in the most gruesome fashion, one by one.

Wounds and Scars

Eliza

Pain spread along her stomach as she also felt an icy sensation climbing up her limbs. That warlock had been the origin of magic she’d sensed at the destroyed campsite. As Malcolm carried her away, she wanted to yell that they didn’t need to worry about her. That he should be paying more attention to the last words of Beliel.

They’d be returning and this time with an army. She couldn’t put these people through that, the werewolves had suffered enough at the hands of the Magic folk. But she could barely sayanything with the amount of blood leaving her body. The world spun as people yelled back and forth over her head, and her eyes closed, cutting off the light of the sun.

The heat of the day had evaporated as her limbs grew colder.

At least she’d finally be able to repay Malcolm for saving her.

As her mind fell unconscious, she could see it now. This was fate, her being here. She’d been the reason behind him going, and now he had his family around to support him through thick and thin. Even if she was to go, he’d still have them.

Yes, she was his mate, but she was also a weapon created by evil. Her body was pieced together by the very people she’d killed; she couldn’t live her entire life pretending that wasn’t the case.

Even as she fell completely under, she could feel tears slipping from her eyes.

Malcolm

“Heal her,” Malcolm yelled at the healer who was looking over the wound.

Pressing shaking hands to his lips, he found himself taking steps back from the bed where Eliza laid only to pause when he saw the red on his hands. They were covered in blood; he stared at them, his eyes widening as his stomach turned with fear, regret, and self-loathing.

“Hold it down,” the healer snapped at her assistance. Her hands pressed against the wound. Blood poured from the wound, the healer lifted her hand and pointed at one of the women who’d been gathering items from the healer's bag. “Hand me more gauze; we’ve got to stop this blee?—”

The world slowed down as he stood there.

The noise of people rushing back and forth and his sister crying behind him faded into the background as Malcolm slowly lost his awareness.

He was powerless.

She’d taken the deathly blow for him; he’d been so sure of his power. Like before, he was so sure his choice was the only choice to be made.

How could he have lost sight of the big picture?

“Malcolm.” He looked up to see the healer’s grim expression. “You have to take her to the human world. She needs surgery.”

Giving the room a searching look, he placed his hands on her shoulders. “D-Diana, she-she’ll be all right, won’t she?”

Diana refused to meet his gaze. She’d dealt with plenty of newly mated couples but never one who was dealing with the possible death of another. She wouldn’t promise something she couldn’t; the wound had been deep and had cut through a major artery. She lifted her chin and repeated her words with a firmness that couldn’t be doubted.

“She needs to have surgery, Malcolm.”

He stared at her as if he couldn’t fully comprehend her words. After a minute the words finally landed, and he realized that taking Eliza to the human world was the only way she could possibly survive her injury.

Jaw tightening, he withdrew his hands and hardened his resolve. Immediately he lost all warmth in his gaze.

If Diana hadn’t been sure he didn’t see her as an enemy, she would have run away. His aura completely changed, and his green eyes became cold like chips of ice.

“I’ll be taking her to the hospital,” he announced, walking around her. “While I’m away, Agun, you’ll be the one in charge.”

Agun murmured an assent to his orders.

Understanding what his Alpha was telling him. He lowered his eyes respectfully as his lord walked past him.

“Yes, Alpha.”
